Hello-- I know I've been posting a lot lately, I'm sorry!  I don't know what's gotten into me.

Here's the question (not necessarily Lupus related): has anyone experienced a cough that expels saliva/mucus with streaks and dots of black and gray in it?  I know it's kind of disgusting but I'm curious. I wonder what it could be. I've been on anti-biotics for bronchitis for three days and it doesn't seem to be helping.

Do you think the black is dry blood? Have you called your doc? I think this is definitely a reason to call you doctor. Let us know what they say. Judy

Dana,

I agree with Judy, I would call my doctor right away. I hope this is not serious and it is just your lungs clearing out due to the antibiotics, but it doesn't sound normal to me.

Hi Dana, actually it's good to see you posting. I've got the worst lungs you'd ever want to see and never coughed up anyhing like you discribed. When I have an infection it's usually green or yellow or rust colored. I'm wondering if maybe you breathed in somthing that caused the infection in the first place? The next time that happened you need to save it as discusting as that sounds and take it to the ER if you can't get to your doctor. But I am with Judy it needs to be examined further.

Hmm well it doesn't look like blood to me, I'm thinking it's just particles perhaps? I'm not sure--- this has never happened before. If it happens again I'll be sure to call the doctor tomorrow and ask. No harm in asking.

That's what concerns me. you could have inhaled somthing you were eating and not even realized it. If your antibiotics aren't helping you may need somthing else. You could end up with pnemonia.

Hi Dana, how have you been doing with the coughing? any more of the black stuff? I hope your anti _b's are starting to kick in. There is so much respirtory problems going on right now.

Hi all, I haven't noticed it anymore-- it was just that night that it was happening.  Didn't get much sleep that night, and I'm sure my roommates didn't either. 

Today was the last day of the azithro and I feel a little better, but not much. hmmph. Thanks for the concern gals.  I suppose it will just take time.

Oh, and I am curious, does anyone know a college student with Lupus, or is there one on here?  I would love to talk with them sometime, and figure out how they do it!

Thanks hun, nope don't know about the college student sorry. Don't wait to long if you aren't getting better by tomorrow you should get with your doctor. You may have to take somthing else.

All I really do is go to class and other school stuff, everything else is spoon theory... I have a handicap parking pass and with out it I wouldn't be able to do hardly anything when I can't walk.

 Carol--Feeling better!  I can't complain, since my roommate was in the hospital last week and had to have a spinal tap done. OW. She has mono as well.

Yesterday the black remenents reappeared in my cough, but I read somewhere that it can actually be from eyeliner or mascara??  I don't know how true this is...and I didn't wear mascara all weekend. Not sure. But the cough has subsided for the most part. Just really tired and headachey.
