I was wondering if any of you are members of the Lupus Foundation of America?  or a local support group?    I am in the process of starting a local chapter.  I am really wanting to help other people who are dealing with this disease!  What do you guys think?   I know I was hesistant to even join this forum for a long time I just lurked because I am after all the queen of denial and didn't want to "labled" a lupie!  Now I realize how much we all need to support one another.  Thanx for in put!  Judy

Hi Judy,

   I'm a member of the LFA. I get lots of newsletters from them and updates. I started a local support group a few years ago but, it didn't go very far at the time. There wasn't much interest then and not alot of people wanting to get out around here. This is a very small town. It would probably do alot better now if someone started one here.

   I think its great that you are wanting to help others while getting the help you need as well. I hope it goes well for you and I wish you the best with this. Please keep us updated and take care. I will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Judy: That's awsome if you can do that. I went to the lupus walk event, I didn't walk, it was just nice to meet other people who have lupus. I also am a member. Our surpport group is far for me if they had one closer I think i would go. GOOD LUCK Debbie

Hi MJLD,

I am also a member of the LFA.  Originally I joined it because my sister was diagnosed with Lupus, then over the years I developed symptoms and was eventually diagnosed with Lupus myself.  It's a great organization and the people are always willing to help.  I think it's wonderful that you want to start one in your area.  I wish I had one closer than 90 minutes away.  Good luck!!

Hi Judy, I am a member of my local chapter here in Georgia. There are several support groups in the metro area, the closest to me is about 30+ minutes away. They meet every 2nd sunday, I hope to attend one soon.

I think it's great that you want to start a support group and that you will be very good at it! I pray it goes well for you. Keep us posted

Thanks so much for your input and support everyone. The closest chapter to me is in Hot Springs Arkansas! That's about an 8 hour drive. Since hurricane Katrina there is no long a chapter for the whole Gulfsouth area (coastal Mississippi and Louisiana). So, i'm hoping we can get it going! Love and prayers to all, Judy
