hi everyone!

I know it has been a while since I've posted...
I was just wondering, I was thinking about getting another piercing in my ear...I have gotten piercings in the past (before I was diagnosed) and always took good care and have never been infected, but I was wondering if it is really risky to get one now since I am on immunosuppressents and blood thinners (among many others)

anyways, I was hoping someone would have some insight into this...thank you!

Miss cali,

 I would be sure to go to a tattoo shop, even if it is just an earlobe piercing. Most corner earring piercings only use clean technique. A tattoo shop should pull everything sterile out of an autoclave and may even be familiar with the type of meds you are on and what precautions you might need to take. The sterile technique and your care afterwards will ensure you wont get an infection since your immune system is suppressed.

At last! A topic I know something about.  :o)

Go here to find an APP (Association of Professional Piercers) member. APP members  have been trained to create and maintain a sterile field, much the same way nurses and phlebotomists do. Your piercer may ask you to get a second opinion from your doc before proceeding.

Even if your piercer gives you a short, only semi-helpful handout or just tells you a few quick tips after you're gorked from the piercing endorphins, take the responsibility to know and follow the proper aftercare procedures yourself. 

DO NOT allow anyone near you with a piercing "gun." They're impossible to sterilize. They are a bad idea no matter how sturdy your immune system is.

thanks so much for the tips!! i had no idea there was an APP lol! ill definitely consult my doctor (and mom lol)
i would NEVER get pierced with a gun! i used to get more piercings when i was younger and wasnt all immunosuppressed...are there any areas of the ear that dont get infected as easily?
