Ok, so my rheumy wanted me to try to come off NSAIDS (piroxicam) thinking that hopefully the Mtx & plaq are working on my joint pain. Instead of taking them daily like I had been she wanted me to take them as needed.

Over the last couple of weeks I have not been feeling well and Saturday morning I woke up with these weird pains on the right side of my head. Over the course of the day it turned into an earache. I saw my PCP today and guess what????? My ear was clear... no infection..... so what's causing my pain?????? YEP you got it..... LUPUS!!!! She thinks it's inflammation in the cartilage and/or joint near my ear.

It's really true.... lupus can wreck havoc on any part of your body!!!!! mad

(((((Stacie)))))) Sorry about your ear. That kind of ear pain hurts, I had an infection that got bad from a pierced earring and I thought that was bad. Luckily they found it soon. I stayed on my pain meds for five years and now I'm sick and hurting. It's always a surprise when we stop them. I hope they get you on the mend soon.

I've had vertigo for about 10 days, the last few added some awfully swollen & sore lymph nodes all over my head & neck. So today the dr gave me some antibiotics....guess what? Now, now after 10 days, my ears start to hurt. Man, mix a wild lupus inflammation & a handful of meds and you never know what's going to happen next! And, at least your dr thinks it's lupus related....my dr is sticking to the line "we don't know much about vertigo".........ARG! Hope we all have calm, well functioning ears in the AM

What next so far lupus affects just about every part of our body. Yuck!! Hope all of you feel better soon. Debbie

Inflammation in the jaw joint can cause severe ear pain w/o jaw pain depending on how bad and the cause.

Oh no, Stacie - that really stinks. I would never think of lupus causing ear problems, but after reading what happened to you and others that posted, I guess lupus can really attack any part of our bodies. I guess no part of our bodies are safe. I hope you get some relief soon. Lynnwood, I think your doc needs a few lessons about lupus.

Hmmm, this is interesting. I've been having ear pain, no infection or redness. My GP thinks it's coming from my jaw....like redrose mentioned.

I hope you get to feeling better Stacie.

The jaw issue is actually common in AI disease. Sorry to all who deal with it. I have it on occasion and I'm always glad it doesn't hang around long. It sometimes heralds a flare. *sigh* Blessings!

I too have the jaw causeing ear aches thing going on intermittently.
I had to give up my NSAIDS and trust in just mtx and plaq because after ten days on mtxmy blood hematocrit level plumeted and doc said its the mtx interacting with the NSAID so no more sulindac for me.

   (((Hugs))), I'm sorry your having the ear pains on top of everything else right now. I'm sure you are very frustrated. I have alot of ear pain as well with no infection. I hope this clears up for you soon. Take care and keep us updated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I actually have been having ear pain too, as well as strange pains in my head. Mine is also accompanied by pain when I swallow sometimes. Anyone else have this? I have not seen a dr about any of this, because I didn't really think it was necessary. A friend suggested it may be a migraine, but it has lasted several days, and I'm also VERY tired. The weird thing is, I was just at the rhuematologist (didn't mantion it to them) and all of my labs looked ok.

Thank you Marji, Lynn, Rosie, Debbie, Red, Hippi, Jeannie, sjkly, Babs & DQueen.... I never thought that Lupus would be behind this ear / head pain, I really thought it was an ear infection and the inflammation was pressing on a nerve and causing the weird head pain but it was clear as a bell.

Monday I started back on the NSAIDS (piroxicam) and I've only had a few twinges of pain. I really have to remember to mention this to my rheumy and let her know she can NEVER try to change my meds again. Every time she does I have some new pain some where in my body! The last time it was chest pains when I came off plaquenil.

Thank you again everyone, you all are so wonderful and supportive... I don't know what I would do without you. (((hugs))))
