Do you think this can turn to lupus??

I have been tested for the last 7 years. My ANA is 1-640 and my ESR is 50. Everything else is neg. Double stran, SSA, SSB, Rheumatoid factor neg ch50, c4, c3, RNP, everything and more NEg, neg. I do have aches and pains not bad not swollen. I am overweight and want the lapband. I wonder if I will end up after the procedure with lupus... What does anyone think??

I'm not sure if this is what you want to hear, but I had the Gastr-bypass. My health greatly impoved the first 9 months. but then slowly it started going down hill. Then for about 2 years now I've been in the worst flare I've ever had. I'm doing better and hopefully will continue to do better. I have some good days and of course some that are not so good.

Now I'm just waiting to hear about my SS disability hearing results.

honeygirl, it's really hard to tell what might happen. I think the best thing to do is talk to your doctors and see what they think given your labs. You might be lucky and never have symptoms, or someday you might get symptoms. I wish there were more clear cut answers. I have rad, like hippyrebel said that sometimes surgeries can bring on a flare, but others handle it fine. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Honeygirl,

Hippi gives some good advice. Your doctors and rhuemy can give the best advice. I can tell you from my experience, I had a complete hysterectomy (abdominal) in October of 2001 and by February of 2002 I was experiencing what turned out to be a major lupus flare. I wasn't officially diagnosed until the summer of 2005 but it was a hard and painful journey timed quite close to the major surgery.

On the other hand, who is to say I would not have had the same experience without the hysterectomy? All I know is that I was having serious problems with my endometriosis turned adenomiosis, that I could not put the issue off any longer. For ten years (from age 30 to age 40), I tried every option and avenue available until I had no choice but to pursue the hysterectomy. At the time I did not have a rhuemy, but my family doctor and gynecologist really encouraged me to go on with the major surgery.

What I am saying is this, if you really need the lapband surgery for health reasons such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes prevention, or other serious health reasons, then you would be wise to clear everything with your doctors and rhuemy and carefully proceed with their guidance. I have two friends who had the same procedure and everything went quite well for them both. They were not dealing with the same set of circumstances as you but they did receive major health benefits for other issues as I mentioned.

Thank you, Since the last few days I think I do notice some symtoms. I don't know if it is exacltly lupus but my ankles and wrists feel swollen. It doesn't look swollen more like if you have way too much chinese food type of swollen. Which I didn't have also my knees kind of hurt. When people say they haven't been diagnosed for years is that because the tests were neg or because they didn't run the correct tests? I have been going every year and when my ANA is very high I don't feel so great and when it's lower I feel 100% fine. They said they ran every test they could think of and everything is neg but the reason they ran tests to begin with was back in 2001 7 years ago after my c-section I felt horrible and my joints and muscles hurt but again only ANA And Esr was high. nothing else...-Elisa
