ssd hearing - very nervous

SSD hearing this afternoon, 2:30 pm. Very nervous -- feeling so much like a fake. Like I should just get over it and go back to work. ARG. I hate this!

Lynnwood, your mind is playing games with you. If you sit back and think about it, you know you are not a fake. You had a neuropsychologist tell you that for the time being anyway your mind isn't up to par, i.e. brain fog, and you know how bad you feel. Relax and let your lawyer do the work. SSD was designed for people just like you. You need the financial help so you go girl! I'll be here rooting for you. Please let us know as soon as you know anything.

Thanks guys. I'm just so worried that I'm going to say something wrong and they are going to tell me that I can work as a movie ticket taker or something like that. I'm from a mindset that says "I can do ____" (even though I know it'll put me in bed for a few days)....need to figure out how to squash that thinking at least for an hour or two!

I felt the same way that you do when I went for the third time to try to get SSD.  Always I used to think I was lazy when I was really sick.  and only when I began to get better did I realize that I really had been sick. 

SSA is a government organization, and they want us to maybe feel this way to discourage us from trying to get the benefits we are entitled to recieve.

I too will send you hugs and hope and prayer that your meeting this afternoon will find you approved.  No one was more surprised than me when they approved me the third time I tried.

Please know that you are entitled to this benefit, you are not a fake, and hopefully this will be a turnaround for you.  Depending on how much you recieve and the state that you live in, you will also be eligible for Medicaid and food stamps.

ARG....that was a pain in the behind! I guess this judge usually takes 60 days or so to file his ruling....my attorney wasn't sure how it went, but more favorable than not, I guess.

I know exactly where you are at. I still struggle with those thoughts, I think we all do. It's like if I have one decent day I think, I should be at work! Please be realistic and fair with your self! You are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless you, Judy

Hey Lynnwood.

I don't remember how long it took for the judge to make a decision and send it to SSA, but sixty days sounds about right.  they gave me SSI at first, and medicaid is automatic with SSI.  Then two months later they gave me regular social security disability payments.  and I no longer had medicaid.  then a new policy was written, and my income was low enough to be given medicaid.  If I did not have medicaid today, I do not know what I would do.  My meds are about six hundred a month.    then on the other hand, if I had more money I could buy more food;)  between a rock and a hard place.  Just hope that everything goes well for you.  that you will recieve your letter telling you that you have been approved.  It is an awful place that you have to live in at the moment, and if I could change it for you I would.

If you don't mind, what kind of questions did judge ask?, was there a voc/med expert there?
My hearing is on Sept 3.

I'm so nervous too, its so hard because on the outside we look ok, when we have our good days, but then ther's the bad days when you can see the pain in my eyes, I suffer almost daily....

((((((( Lynnwood )))))))))) I'm SO sorry this was so hard. Thanks for being so honest about your thoughts. Wow . . . that's really interesting. I've felt like that when I "try" to describe my issues to someone. I hope you get good news. You've waited SO long. I wish you were able to sense a favorable outcome so the wait wouldn't be so hard. Greetings Lynnwood! I have been out all day and just saw your post. I am so sorry for the terrible pain this whole situation has put you through! You sound as though you are doing everything right, however, and having a good lawyer is the right first step. Hopefully this is the final step in this crummy situation but, if not, don't ever give up!

My prayers are with you! You are definitely not a fake! I hope you are taking good care of yourself.

As for what questions they asked -- fairly basic and exactly what my attorney predicted -- how much or how long can you lift, carry, walk, sit, stand - what does your average day look like - what are your chief complaints - does anyone help you - I'm SO glad the hearing is over, I feel much better today. Thanks everyone for your support, it means a lot to me. I can't begin to tell you how difficult it is to go in there and admit I can't work at doing anything.....just not totally sure I believe that....

I'm sure you did great. What did their employment person have to say? I had my hearing July 1, the employment person said I couldn't do any work now. Once we walked out, my attorney ask if I heard what he had said and I told him yes, the attorney then told me I had won.

I just got the big fat letter from the Judge a saying he had ruled in my favor. But now I have to wait to find out for sure how much and when it will start from the SS. One thing that made it so agrevating was that the Judge ruled my disablily went back to Jan 02. I know I won't get money that far back. I had files in 02 but when I was turn down I didn't appeal it. I refiled in 05

I had some good days but went overboard in trying to get stuff done that I hadn't gotten done. So this week I'm in a lot of pain but that too shall pass.

In understanding the courage that you have in saying these words, I have to see the courage in my own self as well.

I am so glad it is over for you Lynnwood for a time.  Praying that the future brings you the disability pay that you deserve.  Hearing you say that you don't quite believe that you can't work at anything, echoes my own thoughts back in 1998.  Having to say that and trying to believe that we can't work at anything, is like giving up on ourselves in a way.  Letting go of a dream that says someday in some way we can work is hard.  But we have to do it.  We have to accept our limits and our boundaries that Lupus, sjogren's, stroke, etc., creates for us.  We didn't cause it, we didn't create it, and we have no power over it.  What we do have power over is the way we respond to the disability that we have.  And I am not always on the money with my own response to my own disability, which is another reason this forum is so important to me.  It allows me to forgive myself for not being perfect.

They had asked me if I could drive and could i have done a sitting job when I got sick.  I told him I could drive but on days when I know I am not feeling well and on lots of meds I do not.   Just be honeswt with the judge... The person beore me lied and got cought... I was next and had no problems...

At my hearing the guy who was supposed to be there to say what other jobs I could do never opened his mouth during my hearing. Of course if you look at my dx list you can likely see why. When you get the letter go to your local SSA office. They can expediate the payment process if you are having a money related crisit concerning housing, medicine/medical care, food, etx...
