I can't hear...

For the past week I have barely been able to hear out of my left ear. This has happened before after a really bad sinus infection, my ear became completely clogged by wax. I used similasan wax remover and it cleaned out all the wax.

This time, however, I didn't even have a cold. I used the similasan again, and everything came out clear. It hurts, but not real bad; more annoying than anything. I go to see my doctor on wednesday, but I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

 

Robin, I hope your doc can give you some answers. I've never had that happen, but it is possible for lupus to attack pretty much any part of your body. Since you have some pain, it's possible it could be an ear infection with fluid build up affecting your hearing. My son had trouble hearing when he used to get fluid build up in his ears. Let us know what your doc says.

Hey robin, at least your doctor can take a look in your ears. Maybe it has to do with your glands? which could be lupus related. I noticed the some times when i take hydrocodone it cloggs my ears and causes an aches feeling.

I do show some signs of sjogrens, but have never been officially diagnosed. The only good thing about this is that if I go to sleep on my right side, I don't here any of the traffic noises outside my bedroom window at night. Sure makes falling asleep easier. ;)

OK, I'm back from the doctor. It turned out to be a massive build up of wax in my ear. The chunk of wax the nurse pulled out was the size of a dried up date. As soon as she pulled it a wave of sound literally flooded my ear and cried "I can hear!" Turns out there was a small build up in my right ear as well. My left ear is so raw right now. My doctor wants me to put 50/50 drops of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar in my ear for a couple days to keep from getting an infection. He says my ears must like to make wax, because I don't stick anything in them without a doctor telling me to first. I wonder if it has anything to do with the lupus.

I'm having similar symptoms as the OP stated. Although I had a major cold..I did get over it but for some reason my ear feels like it's blocked. My gf suggested using Hydrogen Peroxide as an anti-dote but I'm on the fence about using that stuff. The weird part is, it does not hurt and it only hurts a little bit if you put pressure on it.

Would that Similan (sp?) work?
