They say when you start seeing rainbows (halos)around streetlights/headlight its not a good thing. Its supposed to be caused when light is not filtering in through your eyes properly (though that information is not enough to pinpoint the cause.). I recently found that I see floaters a lot, outside in the daylight it always looks like there is ash falling (or little white lights.). The doctors haven't found anything as far as a cataract, and there are no signs of a detached retina. I also sometimes get a white film looking thing over my right eye (kind of reminds me of the skin that forms over milk). *Has a bad tendency to ignore health problems as well as belittle the big things.*

Does anyone else have similar problems?

I haven't had similar problems, but I'm curious. The doctors you describe....are they opthalmologists? I would be concerned if I were you and would see the best eye doctor I could find.

Well said, Patty!! The key word being opthalmologist (NOT optometrist). I do have floaters also and my eye doc has given them the "all clear" as normal aging. But you really want to make SURE you aren't at the beginning of something bigger. Especially if you are taking plaquenil. Please keep us posted!! Blessings!

Hi there,

I normally post on the arthritis board, but wanted to chime in on the vision.  I was on Plaquenil for a couple of years and yes hopefully you are seeing an opthamologist? Have you had a visual field test? I have had several and I didn't fare so well on mine and have had to discontinue my plaquenil due to toxicity.  I also have some of what you decribe but had MRI's and nothing could be found and I also have occular migraines and take Topamax to keep them at bay.  If I get up in the morning and it is still dark outside, and I turn on the lights, I will have the flashing light show going on until it gets light outside.  I also get this while riding in the car at night, it seems to be triggered by the dash board lights etc.  I'm not sure if this is helpful but I thought I would add in my 2 cents for what it is worth.

I see halos, sometimes rainbow halos, other times just regular halos, around lights and I have for several years.  I'm under the care of an opthamologist who is following me as a glaucoma suspect.  Nothing to do with plaquenil, from what I understand (although I did take plaquenil at one time).  As others have already mentioned, I would get thee to an opthamologist---not a primary and not a rheumatologist.  The good news is that if it is the beginning of glaucoma, it can be treated before major damage is done.

I have very similar vision issues.  I, like you tend to wait till its bad before checking it out...I think Ill call my dr and see what she thinks, now that Im not the only one!  Good Luck!
