Please remember my husband, on Wednesday he has to have his thyroid removed because of possible thyroid cancer. We will know for sure if it's cancer when they do the 2nd biopsy once the thyroid is removed. The doctors are thinking it will turn out to be the most common cancer which stays in the thyroid gland but this is still a scary thing to be faced with.

Also my grandma is in the hospital, we have found out she has COPD and one of her heart valves is not working. It doesn't look good, she is on 100% oxygen and has refused a ventilator. She is 88 years old and has had a pretty tough life.

These are pretty scary issues. I had my thyroid removed 20 years ago because of Papillary Carcinoma, which i the easiest thyroid cancer to cure. It's also the most common. Mine was localized so after surgery I had no further treatments. I was scared to death at the time but have been fine ever since. I've been shown a chart that shows that people who have had thyroid cancer have a longer life expectancy than those who have not. The supposition was that if you've ever had cancer you're more likely to continue to get physicals whereas healthy people who have never been sick may not.

I'll be thinking about you and your husband on Wednesday.

You got it girlfriend! I'm so sorry about your grandma. I know it's hard to see somone suffer like that.
You try not to get too stress out over this. You don't need to get sick as well.

My father in law was dxed with thyroid cancer in 2004 his was starting to spread so his surgery was more extensive and he had to have a special diet and radiation as well as iodine therapy he may even have done a round of chemo. He has been cancer free since the surgery (they got all of it but were making extra certain since his was spreading). He has more regular check ups and has to take thyroid meds but is doing quite well, especially since he is in his 60's.

I am sorry about your grandma. I wish there were more I could say about that, I lost my grandpa to cancer back in 2003. It was horrible.

Please take care of yourself. You don't want to make yourself ill with stress.

Stacie, my prayers are with you and your family. I pray the surgery goes well for your husband and that if he does have cancer, they get it all during the surgery. Take care and give us an update when you can. (((((hugs)))))

Thanks everyone. The doctors can't do anymore for my grandma so they have sent her home with hospice. Since last night they have doubled her morphine and increased the frequency to every 2 hours. Please keep the prayers coming.

I'm soo sorry about your grandma and your husband. I will pray for you all tonite. I had a tumor on my thyroid the size of a baseball that turned out to be benign. I know it's scarey until you know. God Bless and keep you in all that you are facing. Judy

Stacie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandma. I will keep your husband in my prayers. I had my thyroid removed last summer and after that they found some other problems that they hadn't even been testing me for.

Haven't been out much been not doing too good, but I hope that your husband's surgery went well and that your grandma finds some peace and comfort and gets the good care she needs. I hope you are getting rest too and that you have some help with all this. Take care and will pray for you.

Thank you for your prayers, we felt them.  It's what got me thru this week and my husband came thru the surgery well.  We had a couple of scares, his calicum dropped a little and he had a low grade fever but it all cleared up the morning he came home from the hospital. It was cancer in his thyroid and they got it all.  He is on calicum for 2 weeks and of course thyroid replacement.  Now we will wait for his radiation treatment. 

My grandmother's funeral was yesterday.  I am exhausted between being at the hospital all day and night Wed, the funeral home all day Thurday and the funeral and burial most of the day yesterday not to mention I had to drive and hour each way.  I miss her so much but know she is in a much better place. 

I go to my rheumy Monday, maybe she can give me something to prevent a bad flare.  I already have numerous mouth sores. 

Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers I would not have made it this week without them.  Love ~ Stacie

((((((( Stacie )))))))) So sad for you sis . . . what a loss and to have so much else on your mind at the same time. I'm glad most of the running is done. I hope you can get some rest now. Hopefully the radiation treatment won't be too hard on him/you. I hope you'll let us know how that is going. You might want to watch for a nice sized Aloe plant. The fresh aloe is the best thing for any spots on the skin from radiation (take off of leaf and break it, there is clear gel inside . . . it works wonders on burns). Blessings!

I am so sorry. I hope your husband's radiation is the final step beyond getting more frequent check ups. I have heard thyroid cancer is the one to get if you have to get any cancer so long as it is caught before it gets outside the thyroid.

Gentle (((hugs))) for you, I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I know it's really difficult to deal with a loved ones passing, and then on top of everything else, you must just be worried sick about your hubby. I want you to know that I'm saying lots of prayers for you and your family. I understand how hard it is to hear someone you love dearly has cancer. I was so upset when I found out my mother had lung cancer.

I just wanted you to know that I'm praying for you and if I can do anything at all please let me know.

Thank you Rosie, Red, Hippi, Barbara & Judy

My hubby is recovering well, he has a follow up visit with the surgeon tomorrow. He still has some swelling, hopefully it's normal. He will be seeing his Endo soon and we will know more about the radioactive iodine pill, how many doses he will have to take, etc.

My appt with my rheumy went well. She gave me some Pred for when I'm flaring and my GI tract is in an uproar, which seems to happening frequently. She also increased my Imuran by 1/2 tab a day. All in all I guess it was a good visit.
