OUCH! My lips!

Does anyone have a REALLY good recommendation for a lip balm?

 

My lips are so dry they're almost at a bleeding stage.  My regular "ChapStick" just doesn't cut it.

My lips are always dry, I guess from the sjogrens and I use Burts Bees. The packaging looks like chap stick but they come in lip stick colors from light to dark, there is a wide variety to choose from. Also Blistex is good. I hope you find relief soon! Take care

Well that's interesting because I always see the Burt's Bees products but I've never tried them.  I'll have to give it go!

 

Rosie, that lipstick sounds very nice.  My current lipsticks dry my lips out too, so maybe that brand you mentioned would be worth trying also.

EEEEK! You should not use Chapstick. There is alcohol in it that will dry your lips out. Also, never use Carmex. You can buy different types of lip balms from Vaseline that are safer and will help your lips to heal. Lip therapy is good, also by vaseline they offer night time balms that are thick and will protect for longer. I had problems with this a few years back and a nurse even said that Desitin (yes the stuff for diaper rash on babies) is a really good moisture sealant. You don't want to wear it in public though its got a white look. If you want o spend a few bucks Mary Kay has a really nice lip balm that you can buy in a set with a lip exfoliant (not recommended for use while you are almost bleeding though) Once your lips heal you can use the exfoliant daily to remove old dry skin and it helps with recurring problems. I started using that brand and I haven't had any bleeding for a long time. It lasts for about 4 hours too. Someone else mentioned Burts Bees and that is also really good too-its made from natural product and is about $3.00 a tube. My mom used to tell me to eat an orange for my sore chapped lips. You could try that too.

I use aquafor it works great. I also use burts bees and carmex. Good luck.

Vaseline at night.  Never thought of that.  I'll give it a try if the Burt's Bees doesn't work.  I woke up this morning with nice soft lips, so here's hoping!  Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!  A sore mouth is hard to live with!

Vaseline is good but only for the short time the problem with anything petroleum  based is the molecules are to big to be absorbed by the skin so it essentially sits on the top layer and gives relief as long as it's sitting there but does nothing to solve the problem just acts like a  bandaid.  When my sjogrens was bad my whole mouth cracked my lips were so dry they would bleed and the corners of my mouth cracked. I had every single lip chap in Shoppers ( your Cdn so you know what I mean by that) I think I had about 24 of them. I finally went to an ND and he told me for skin and lips eyes everything to use coconut oil I bought a tub 10 months ago and it's still 1/4 full. I use it all the time it's the ONLY thing that helped me and my case was severe. I use it still on my skin, lips and hair never have a dryness problem. Plus it's a natural anti fungal so kills anything you might have brewing as far as yeast.

 

Hi Ginny, I know someone said not to use carmex but I get really bad cracks on the sides of my mouth. I think it's from some of my meds. But carmex works great for me. It costs a buck. I don't like the tube because it's a little thinners than the jar stuff. I hardly use it during the day but when I go to bed I put a ton of it on and don't rub it in. it just sets there over night. maybe use it once during the day and than thick again at night and usually it's gone. When I visited mymom she had been trying to get rid of her chapped lipped and she had some chapstick and some balm stuff from avon. she got no releif. I gave her my carmex and it healed up in 24 hours. I hope by now something somone has tried has been of help to you. Let me know if you want me to talk with one of the dairy farmers around you. Maybe we can send ya a cow for christmas???
lol but seriously coming from cattle country I'll bet that does work and you could probably buy it at a grain store.

No way!  Really? Walmart sells udder balm?  Do you get it in the pharmacy area?  I can't believe I'm actually, seriously thinking of using this on my lips.  Only YOU GUYS will know!!!

Okay, black tub, Shoppers, vitamin area where the cooler drinks are. Got it!  The bottoms of my feet are now looking like my lips.  I was so embarassed today when I had to go see my foot doctor.  I was getting the moulds done for some orthotics.  So he had to look at my feet and they were soooooo gross.  I mean, really.  It was bad.  So hopefully this stuff will help.  You can put it in your hair too?! 

 

Yeah, it's -40 with the windchill here today.  A "chinook" is blowing in tonight and will raise our temps to a balmy and tropical -10!  WOO HOO! Can you sense the sarcasm in that woo hoo?

If none of the above suggestions work I recently discovered BE's Buzz Latte Lip Balm (same people who make bare minerals) and it is the first thing that worked on my lips to keep them from splitting and bleeding. My lips have been really dry for years.
