update....kidney biopsy

This is an update from my last post titled blood in urine. I went to the doctor on Monday and they where worried about my kidneys. They did blood work and a urinalisis and it came back that there is something wrong with my Kidneys. So, on Thursday night I will be checking into the hospital for a overnight stay and getting a kidney biopsy and some other tests run. They said something about having me on an IV of steriods to help with my Kidneys. Tomorrow (Wed) I go to the kidney Dr and he will tell me what I need to do to be prepared for this. Has anyone had a Kidney Biopsy? If so, what should I expect. My nerves are all over the place right now...I guess I am just rambeling. If anyone has any advice please let me know!!!

Hi Aimsgirl. I know the idea of a kidney biopsy is very scarey. I had one about 2 years ago, and I was so nervous! I wish I would've known about this site before that so that I could ask advice like you are doing. At the time, I didn't know of anyone whi had had one. Anyway, it really was not as bad as I was expecting. The anticipation and the novacaine shots were the worst part of it. (And of course having to lie flat on my back for 8 hours afterward!) But honestly, the biopsy itself was a piece of cake. I hope you have the same good luck that I did. Afterwards, you will wonder what you got yourself all psyched up about. Best of luck to you!

Aimsgirl, I'm glad you went to your doctor, but I'm very sorry to hear that they think there is something wrong with your kidneys. At one time I thought I might have to have a biopsy done and I asked others about it here. I got the same answer that DQ gave you - that it's not as bad as it sounds. Luckily I didn't end up having to have the biopsy. You wil be in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you didn't have to go through any of this. Please let us know how things went whenever you are feeling up to it.

I'm glad to hear that you went to the doctor. I'm too am sorry to hear that you may have an issue with your kidneys, but I'm glad to hear that the doctors are investigating the problem right away.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, please keep us posted on your progress.

Aimsgirl,

I had a kidney biopsy a couple of years ago it was not bad at all! They give you medicine to relax you, and lay you on your stomach and before you know it it is done. All I felt was a little pressure and that was it. Then you have to stay flat on your back for a while after. I was scared to have it done, but afterwards I realized that I was worrying for nothing! I hurt a little the next day, but it was really easy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Aims. I dont know how I would lay still for 8 hours on my back like DQueen said happens. I'd to be knocked out for my eye biopsy. Normally they keep people awake for that, and do that local put to sleep. The thing I didnt like, is when I found the patch things on me (the thingy patches they use for heart monitors.). They put it on me whilst I was sleeping...I would of prefered to be aware of it...but I'm a female with a bigger build, and more self consecious (men tend to stare cuz of how bigger I'm built). So that irrated me. We will pray and keep you in thoughts..
