Prednisone & Mood Swings

No I haven't Lynnwood, but hate to hear you're having problems with mood swings. My mood has been mellow the whole time i've been on prednisone, but I doubt if that's the norm. Hope yours mellows out too.

I've experienced the opposite as well.  As I come down on the pred, my moods get better.  I haven't heard of a taper causing mood swings like that.  How are you this weekend?

The crash I spoke of is/was part of the mood swing thing. I am totally overwhelmed by stupid little things and break into tears at the drop of a hat. This *IS NOT* my normal demeanor, by far. I am known far and wide as the "calm cool collected" one who is the go-to person for anything & everything. I'm exhausted yet not sleeping well. (Sleep study last spring produced no solutions and killed me financially!) Home insurance, auto insurance, health insurance, disability insurance, homeowners board (treasurer), lupus moderator, my medical appts & paperwork, house cleaning, investment re-al location, groceries, laundry, helping friend dispense of fathers estate, etc,....and the thought of even one thing is enough to bring me to tears right now. And as laws, etc change they all need to be reviewed regularly....I'm the only one here & as such am totally responsible for myself, my expenses, and my house! Part of it in Dec was affected by the SAD, I know, but now the sun is out more...something has got to be going on with my hormones, I guess since no-one else has noticed this that it must be something besides the prednisone drop. This hyper-emotionality is coming from somewhere, I'm sure.....unless they switched out my brain in my sleep. I did have the rheumy find some ovarian cysts (non-symptomatic) last March, and haven't made it to the GYN yet, maybe that's involved somehow. Once I get done with the GI, rheumy, dentist & eye dr, maybe I'll get to that soon. ARG!

I don't know if I can be of much help or not. But I can certainly relate to many of the symptoms you have mentioned you are going through and I am not on the prednisone. It always seems like everything can pile on at once, with like you said, the docs, the house, one thing after another and it seems like its always when we are feeling at our worst, then the flare strikes adding more doc appts etc, with like you said more responsibilites. If you could just have one day, a spa day to give yourself at home, to breath etc, boy would that be nice!!!!

One thing we found that has been tremendous help since I cannot be in the sun is I had severe Vit D deficiency. Once on Vit D treatment for it boy did the stress and flares come down. I felt better within a week. I know you have SAD, and I too cannot be exposed to sunlight at all. I am so hypersensitive 10 minutes and I am down sick vomitting in the house for a few days sometimes with rashes etc.

I am on my own with divorce etc so I have my days where I just cry.

I can say you are strong and doing well, and maybe schedule yourself a down day or two once a week to just breath. Relax, watch tv, make sure you schedule nothing to do one that day of the week and just relax, manicures, just pamper yourself. I hope maybe that this will help you start to destress. You deserve to pamper yourselve.
