How long does blood test take?

Hello all,

Of course I'm just probably jumping the gun and getting nervous or paranoid but I had alot of blood tests done by my new rhemy on July 30th. Today is the nineth bussiness day and I haven't heard from them. He said it can take up to two weeks for the blood and urine test because they are extentsive but I have a million things going through my head. I guess because he said if there was something really off he would call, if not and they were just slighty abnormal I would find out at my six week check up. I am curious to the results as I need them for diagnosis. Is this normal to wait this long for results for any of you guys. Some people say it depends on the titer and all that stuff. God I hope that's not the reason but I also want to know something so people can quit making me think it's in my head. He said he was leaning towards mixed connective tissue instead of sle alone. Gosh!!! I'm only on Tramadol for pain and nothing else.

That does seem long and the waiting game is so hard to play!!!  I know I live in a small town and a lot of test are sent out to other labs and that can delay the process.  If you don't want to wait until your next visit you can go to medical records and request a copy of your lab test.  I used to keep a copy of all of my labs for my own records.  I know you are worried and frustrated.  I hope it's sooner rather than later that you get some information!  God Bless you, Judy

So do I need to just got to the hosptial where they took the test and ask for a copy and they will give me one with no problems?

I would call your rheumy's office and talk to his nurse and ask her to read you the results. If the office is close, drive over and ask for a copy. Surely this is an oversight by a busy office. Your rheumy should have made an appointment to go over the results in person so that he can explain them to you.

I'm never hesitant to call and ask. It's important to take charge of your own health, and I've always said that your doctor's nurse can be your best friend and advocate. Mine certainly is. I've made sure to develop a good relationship with her and she's always helpful when I call. Don't be bashful.
