Plaquenil for joint pain

I am trying to find out if anyone's had luck with plaquenil for joint pain? My rheumatologist is running tests but thinks I have a mixed connective tissue disease. I just want some relief from the knee, shoulder and wrist pain. I hear plaquenil can take a long time to work. That seems pretty frustrating.

I noticed plaquenil helping with my fatigue more so than anything else. It does help my joint pain but I need extra help from other meds too rolleyes It can take up to 6 months to get in your system and fully work, each person is different. I pray it doesn't take that long for you to get some relief. If it does not help the joint pain be sure to talk to your doctor, there are other meds they can give you to help. I had the opposite problem. Plaquenil was great for the pain and swelling but did almost nothing for the fatigue. I actually have found nothing for fatigue. Of all the meds, Plaquenil was the best for me and helped the most, but some people don't tolerate it. From what I understand, it is "the first line of defense" and definitely worth a try!

For me, the thing that helped the fatigue most was something I would never, ever have guessed. I thought I was sleeping just fine, even adding naps so I thought I had plenty of sleep. But I was still too tired to move!

My rheumy suggested some sleeping medication and I thought he was nuts but did what I was told. The first night I took it I slept 14 hours but actually felt better when I woke up! Seven years later and I still take it...eventually even stopped having to have a nap every day.

Nowadays if I feel extreme fatigue I take a look at my food. Usually I've accidentally skipped a meal or missed having enough protein in my last few meals -- eating a high-protein meal w/some veggies usually helps perk me up.

(My sleep aid is prescription Trazodone, but there are lots of other options - you can start by seeing what an OTC sleep aid does.)

My rheumy also gave me a prescription for trazdone. I am going to pick it up today. I hope these pep me up and get me out of pain. Thanks for the information everyone!
