Did you suspect your diagnosis?

Hey all,

I'm new to the forums and am wondering how everyone knew or suspected something was wrong? What lead to the lupus diagnosis?

Hello to you,

For me it was the overwhelming fatique, you sleep and wake up just as tired. Plus, pains, aches and fevers---put me onto the Lupus/Sjogren's rollercoaster ride.

Gradually through out my day I started getting to the point to where I could hardly walk. By night i had to get help walking to my car from my work. My grandmother has severe RA so I thought that I had developed RA and went straight to a rhuemy. He did blood work and within a few weeks for the first time, I heard the word Lupus! So for me...the unbearable pain was my first key!!!

I was thinking maybe I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...I don't think I'd heard of Lupus or if I had I didn't know much about it! Of course, that was 10 years ago now and with Brain Fog who remembers? lol!

I had no clue. Was a healthy 17yr old. Until gradually i started waking up with pains in my knees and joints...eventually during the day it would disappear.

But at the end of the day when i would lay on the couch watch some tv for a while..And when time to go to bed...i literally could not move...

So this lead me to my doctor..who ran some test..He thought it was J.R.A...but that test came back negative...so all. this time I was in pain..unable to get out of bed to go to the bathroom on my own..:(


So my doctor send me to a Rheumatologist who diagnosed me in about 2 weeks.
that's my story..

Had no clue what it was though..Never heard of it up to that point in time.

No, I found out completely by accident. I was in the hospital for something completely unrelated and my ANA was positive-my doctor mentioned it and said it might be something worth checking out cause I told him I was tired all the time. He referred me to a rheumy, but I shrugged it off. But within a couple of weeks I started getting joint pain and I had never had joint pain before, so I made the rheumy appt. He ran some tests, my ds DNA came back positive, plus protein in my urine and a few other things that pointed to Lupus. He put me on Plaquenil and I feel back to normal now. I was so lucky that I got a quick diagnosis.

Yes, I knew that lupus was rampant on my dad's side of the family (two of my paternal aunts died from complications of lupus, one of my daughters was dx with lupus, etc.). I also have RA, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, several other AI diseases....so I figured I had at least a 50-50 chance of developing lupus myself.
