PMS, Premenstrual Lupus Flares

Premenstrual exacerbations
All rheumatic diseases are clinically influenced by the menstrual cycle, and none more so than lupus. Some patients are almost immobilised during the 2 to 3 days preceding menstruation. It is my practice in some cases, to alter the dose of medication during this time. Although difficult to quantify, I believe that significant pre-menstrual disease flare is sufficiently prominent in lupus to be included in this "alternative criteria" list.

And it sure helped answer my questions about ovulation and pms fevers.

I know that Ovulation can cause a raise in body temp, but the amount is very small and so hard to read that you should use a special basal body temp thermometer if you are trying to conceive.

For me, my temp is raised from 97.9 (normal for me) to 99.4 or around there.

It's about time this was addressed and confirmed.  Dr. Hughes rocks!  I'd like to just reach right in there and yank all that crap out of me and get it over with.  Stupid uterus, stupid overies, stupid hormones, stupid lupus...... YES, I'm PMS'ing, LOL!!!  SIGH........

Hahaha, Rosie.  Well, I'm not miserable, just ticked!     hate being a woman sometimes.  I wish I was a good candidate for a hysterectomy.  I'd totally do it.  For now, I just cope!  I'll take menopause any time too..... Bring it on!

Hey jessie, Gather information, but PLEASE don't use any emotional energy worrying about what might happen later. You'll miss all the fun stuff that's going on right now. *sigh* I know its got to be incredibly difficult figuring things out and watching your little girl go thru this . . . . but honestly, she will pick up on your fear or your courage. Kids just do that . . . they can "feel" the spirit of their parents and that's what they use to move forward (or not). (((((((( jessie ))))))))))). Just make sure you understand that most people who post here are the one ones who are either new or were hit hard with this disease. We are each SO different. So make sure you don't lose a minute of fun with your little girl. Blessings!

I am so glad I found this. For the last few years I have been suffering with random bouts of severe joint weakness and pain along with fatigue that putts me in bed for days. From the time I ovulate to the 3rd day of my period I am not human.

I started having these odd thing happen to me like this redness on my face that would come and go. It is also accompanied by one seriously red ear. These flares can come every few days, but every so often they go away for a while and then come back with a vengeance out of the blue ready to make up for lost time. They have recently become very pronounced while I am ovulating. It's not enough that I have crappy periods, now I have to suffer through ovulation all of the way to my period.

Now I have serious joint pain that can be so bad that I cannot open a water bottle because my wrists give out. I have went form working horses to not even being able to ride one. My knees feel funny too, like they have too much fluid in them, then they ache. My body feels like it is on fire.

It was not until the last year that I noticed that this was closely related to my cycle fluctuations. I told my doctor, but I might as well have been speaking Chinese to her. She prescribed Prozac. That did not do anything but make me very stomach sick.

So here I am at 12:08 am burning up and red in the face trying to find people that can relate. I know this post is old, but just thought I would chime in and see if anyone was able to get help or find answers.

No, I have not been diagnosed with anything. Even with all of the "signs that doctors can see with their own eyes" They give me antidepressants. I don't want Antidepressants. I just want to feel good and not lose my job because I cannot get out of bed for three or 4 days a month. Is that sooo much to ask?
