What exactly is Lupus Fog?

I have heard of this since my diagnosis but never really understood whether I have any symptoms of it...I was reading some of the comments and just wondering if anyone could give me some examples just to compare to....It might explain some things or maybe it's just me. The line between lupus symptoms and jsut about everything else gets soooo fuzzy sometimes....Thanks!

As long as you are aware of what is happening you can devise strategies to cope. I was always organized and made lists but did not need them....now, do I need them.

my worst part is my memory! I will forget where I put things I just had in my hand, and completely black out parts of conversations I have with people. Or I can not focus on something.

I black out parts of conversations too! I'm unclear about what lupus fog is exactly too, but I will sort of come to in the middle of a conversation and have no memory of what I just said. Or sometimes my mind will go completely blank in the middle of a sentence, this happens many times a day.

I have all those same things happen to me, daniJav and ebet24, but I think what I am unclear about is did I always have a little bit of it or is it my lupus...I know that sounds wierd but I have always been a little "blonde" at times (I can say that because I am one:) and I guess since being diagnosed a couple years in already and meeting my fiance, he always jokes that I don't remember things or that I'm looking at him but not listening, that kind of stuff....I suppose now that I am thinking real hard it all has increased. I do forget more things, like when running errands and such, but then I can remember what someone was wearing or what they said weeks or years ago..wierd..

I actually was a waitress up until a year into being diagnosed and I could remember people and what they ordered better than anyone and even almost remember still when they came back...sometimes weeks and months later. But now that I think of it at my current job, that I started after being diagnosed a couple years in, the staff always jokes that I am forgetful. I have always been a list person but I guess I agree with Bsime..now I need them!

here's something I am wondering if anyone else gets...I hope I explain it right...Sometimes like on the computer or just in a conversation, I go into this daze, which everyone does at times, except I have a really hard time snapping out of it. Like most people just shake there head or have someone say.."Hey! come back to us!" but I really struggle to get out of it....I can actually keep typing and hear things like I am focused but really I am still in a daze and I look like I am staring....and still be trying to snap out of it...Do you think that is Lupus Fog?

Just the other day while we were playing cards my sister-in-law made the comment that she can't tell whether I'm thinking or just dazing out again... I have to admit it bothered me a little.

Oh my gosh I am not crazy, I know I have the fog but what J.P. and kharma wrote are so true to me as well.

I have memory loss and nose/mouth sores, I feel fatigued all the time, have asthma from light running but all my hemoglobin, WBC,RBC counts are normal. I have some painful red rash on my back, but no facial butterfly rash. Does it sound like I have lupus?? I have just gone to so many doctors who have been so unhelpful and rude.

In my case it's short term memory loss and lack of concentration.

Recently drove to see my Dad, he has lived in the same street for years, must have visited him 500 times and coming home I got lost.

Really makes you feel strange.

my husband gets upset with me because I forget entire conversations! Or worse, I tell him that I did tell him something and infact I never told him. I lose concentration, forget words in mid sentence.....all of it. Thank God for lists and planners:)

Have had funny heads for awhile now but until recently had never experienced a full blown Lupus Fog. What an experience. Couldn't remember any of our internet banking passwords etc, where I had put things and I got lost coming home from my daughters. Made me sit up and take notice though I have now told daughter how to work all accounts and if I'm feeling a little vague I just don't drive. At least we can have a laugh about it now but it was scary at the time tongue

:-) Hello, I am a new member as of today. I am married, have 2 grown children, 2 lovely cats, and am a retired RN. I was diagnosed with lupus and Sjogren's Syndrome a year ago. I did not want to retire, however, it was becoming difficult with frequent illness, and the exhaustion. My physician was advising me for a few months, and when I finally did retire, I was grateful to get the rest. It is wonderful to be able to compare notes with all of you. Lupus is a vexing, complicated disease, however we get comfort, humor, and friendship at this site. I too, have the problem of lupus fog. I have come up with similar ways to deal with this problem. My physician gave me words of encouragement..........you have lupus, lupus doesn't have you. I am glad to "meet" all of you.
