Unemployment & SSD

A little off the topic of lupus, but....

Has anyone been on unemployment while applying for SSD?

I have a cousin with malignant brain tumors that have been radiated and he just had a stroke from one tumor bleeding as it died. They think more tumors might bleed a little as they die, causing more strokes. His life is on the line and he's worrying about money. Life expectancy is shorter than one might normally have while attempting to collect SSD.

He is getting unemployment (for about a month now) from the state of Illinois, and is trying to get SSD funds. They approved him in the SSD office immediately, but tell him no funds until June. Chances of him living till June are slim....and he's afraid to push and risk loosing the Unemployment as well.

I have never heard of anyone getting unemployment for a month. That does not sound accurate at all. Yes I was on unemployment for close to an entire year maybe a little longer. During this time yes I had applied for Long Term Disability for Lupus and Depression. After being turned down twice I did win my case. Once the disability checks started comming in I had to notice unemployment I was recieving it... But that isnt right about unemployment for a month. Maybe you are talking about a severance package. Unemployment is never for one month. Its a law. Very weird that you say that so I am not sure.
