need info about kidney transplant please!!

 i am normally a reader on here and i think i have posted once so i am going to give a short detail of my medical goings ons... i was diagnosed with lupus nephritis end stage renal  failure about 2 yrs ago started on PD right away . the dr put me on large dose of prednisone and a small dose of cellcept and of course the pred. made me gain a ton of weight, now i have lost enough weight to be put on the transplant list and was wondering if anyone here has had one and if they would tell me their story and how it turned out?? i have 3 children ages 12,10,6 and i worry for them  because there are so many things that can go wrong.  i would like to see what other people have to say about it wether is good or bad wether you had one or chose not too and what helped you make the decision.  this is a very scary decision for me and my family and we would greatly appreciate any information and input.   I was also diagnosed with fibro 2 months ago, not sure if that will make any difference or not so figured i would include that..

Hi Tonya and welcome;o) I am so sorry sweetie. I have not had a kidney transplant but I gave my dad one 10 yrs. ago in March. I have to say it was the best thing we could have ever done. We were so lucky that the match couldn't have been better unless we were twins. I have to say that it was a fairly easy thing I was in the hosp. 3 days him 4 and he is doing wonderful in better health then me I think. I was told 6 yrs. ago I had Lupus so I feel blessed that I didn't have it then, if i did they never found it. I pray that you have a family member that will offer to give you one that is your best bet, a sister or brother maybe. I know alot of people don't or won't do that but when my dad told me he was sick I didn't think twice and on my way I was for all the test and boy they are fun tons of those but well worth every one of them I have my dad;o) I would do it all over again. I don't know if this helps but if you need anymore input I will give you his e-mail and you can e-mail him he is always more then willing to tell people all they want or need to know about it, he is wonderful, my hero.

Hi Tonya,
I had a kidney transplant in '06 and my dad was my donor. Everything's going good with me, my dad too. Funny but I think he was in more pain than I was after the surgery. I actually had a baby about a year ago. She was a preemie, but the docs don't think that the lupus had anything to do with it. I actually got better while I was pregnant but ended up with pregnancy induced hypertension and she had to come out 3 months early, but she's doing good now. Anyway, I personally don't think the transplant was that hard. The hospital I was at was wonderful. They had great transplant coordinators that educated us on everything, the docs were amazing and my dad and I were happy with the results. I think that the only complaint I really had was with the shunt that they had to put in the new urethera to keep it open, because the put in a new "connection between your bladder and the new kidney.
