prednisone and plaquenil

My Mom's Dr's wan'ts her to take both Prednisone and Plaquenil together. I have not heard of this being done. I was wondering if anyone has done both med's at the same time and the effects. Mom has Lupus like me, but she was diagnosed when she was 40 yrs old and now she is 58. She has and enlarged heart, diabetes, had a stroke, and failing kidneys.

This is a very popular and normal combination, I'd say that at least 75% of the lupus forum members have been on it!

Plaquenil is an anti-malarial that slows the progression of the disease. Prednisone is a cortiocosteriod that manages inflammation. They have different jobs to do and don't interfere with each other.

This is normal for Lupus patients. My good friend has Lupus and she was put on both Predinisone and Plaquenil when she first was out of remission. She is now on many different serious types of meds including Prednisone and no longer Plaquenil because this was replaced by more serious meds. She has been in/out of the hospital for a year now. Very normal and very effective combination.  I have done both several times during the last three years.  I usually feel best after three or so days of that combo.

They don't interfere at all. I was treated with both Pred and Plaq at one time.
