cronic pain in arms and hands after neck surgery

I am new to this, but if any one has any suggestions I sured would appreciate them.  I have had surgery on my neck twice. Once in May 2010 on C3 through C7, the 2nd one was in November C7 through T2, both with Titanium and screws put in.  I'm not sure what all my nerousurgeon did but 2 weeks after the Nov. surgery I was told my nerves woke up.  I am still in severe pain in both arms and hands.  I have had some kind of shot in my neck 2 and 1/2 months ago with hopes that would help.  It didn't do much.  Now I take oxycotin 20mg 3 times a day and Percocet 5/325 every 8 hours.  This is really hard for me to type, I''m doing my best.  I've been reading about a Tens machine. Does anyone know if they work or if anything else might?  Or am I going to live the rest of my life drugged up and feeling like I don't have much of a life?  I don't mean to sound so down I am thankful I can move my neck some without pain.  Thanks,  Sunlover

The tens machine does work for many people. They do a special implant now that does the same thing but it's permenent.

You can post in the chronic pain section and they can tell you a great deal more about it than I can.

Sorry to hear about the pain you are in. I am not very familiur withe they tens machine or medications you have listed. I would deffinatly pop over to the Chronic Pain forum as Joy suggested as they have many more members using these products!!!

I had C 4-5 and C 6-7 fusion a little over two years ago. I encourage you to get a second opinion. You might have a little trouble getting one, as there may not be many neurosurgeons near you that don't know one another and are willing to give an opinion on another's work. The nerves were awake before the surgery and somethinggave them a reason to say "youch." Now something is either still wrong, or there is a new cause for your pain, possibly as a result of the surgery?
I feel great and am not at 100% functioning. Just sayin'
Also had a bone stimulator, not needed for pain, for healing.

I've had 3 cervical spine surgery's and the last one took over a year to heal. I too had several epiderals with no results. The only thing that helped me in the slightest was the prednisone I was put on and that was only minimaly. I'm not sure if you have Lupus or not but any foreign object is going to subjected to a serious war from our immune system.
I'm not sure about the Tens Machine either but if it could help you with day to day with less pain medicine it might be a good option.
