Belly Piercing and Lupus?

Hey Everyone! I know it has been a very long time since I have posted in here but I have a question about getting my belly button pierced and lupus. I am 18 and if I wanted to I could go get one but I checked with my mom first and she said no because of the risks of infection. Here is a little about me as of right now...

I am on Methotrexate, Plaquinel, 4mg of Prednisone, and Benlysta. I just started the Benlysta and have been taking it for 3 months now. Honestly in the past the only infections I get are usually sinus infections, but then again I am very careful when it comes to my health. I have been doing good lately and I just want to do something different but wanna be safe! Please let me know if you have gotten a piercing or even tattoo while you had lupus or just give me some insight or your thoughts. Thanks so much!

Hey girl! You are 18??? Wow, time flies!!! I had gotten several piercings my first year of lupus but I was not on any immun suppresants. I think this is something that should be discussed with your doctor. Especially with the MTX, we don't want you to get an infection and not be able to get rid of it. I have seen what those look like and your belly button would never look the same again.

What I would do...I would probably get it done knowing the risks. That is just who I am. I get something in my head and I will do, knowing I might regret that decesion later. If you do it, make sure you follow the cleaning instructions to a T! It might not hurt to ask them if you can clean it more often then they suggest. Sometimes you can overclean, which will lead to other issues!

Thanks for the reply! I am not sure what I am going to do yet but it looks like I'm not going to get it for my safety. I know my doctor will definitely say no because she even said no to me using self tanner, which I still use because I have researched that and it is totally fine.

Just call Benlysta or the infusion nurse if you want a quick confirmation on what your Mom told you. I wouldn't want your belly button getting infected. It surely would, most piercings do. The medicine won't allow your body to heal.
I say buy one of the newest fashions or dye your hair some wild color. Maybe get a feather woven into your hair?

I'm a mom and I say no, too. But I think sky blue and lavendar are lovely colors for a hair weave through just a few framing strands.
ps. your mom can be proud of you that you are making tough, but good decisions for yourself.
