I've been on Social Security Disability for some time now. According to their website, they review you from time to time...

SSD said...
The frequency of reviews depends on the nature and severity of your medical condition and whether it is expected to improve.
-- If improvement is expected, your first review generally will be six to 18 months after the date you became disabled.
-- If improvement is possible, but cannot be predicted, your case will be reviewed about once every three years.
-- If improvement is not expected, your case will be reviewed once every seven years.


I was just wondering if anyone has been reviewed? If so, how far into the disability were you reviewed? What did the review consist of?

I posted this earlier without the poll -- it looked like about 70 people had read it, but no replies. That seems to indicate either no one is on SSD or no one has been reviewed....is that correct?

Guess maybe I'm looking for things to worry about, but I'd rather know what to expect than walk into the darkness without a light!

I never got reviewed, probably because of my age at the time.  My knowledge of reviews is that it is very inconsistent.  The older you are the less likely to be reviewed.  Some get reviewed every 3 years but others never.  I just posted an article on facebook on problems in SS disability and I would expect that reviews would become more frequent as a way to get people off.  Hope that is not what you experience.

Hi!
When I was approved for disability, (it only took 2 months, 3 weeks and a day), the very nice person at the SSA office said I would perhaps have my disability status reviewed in 5 years, but that it wouldn't be necessary to file any additional or different paperwork. He said it was standard policy. I had to go to the county clerk's office to have my blue tag renewed after 5 years, too, but no additional paperwork was necessary.

Lynnwood, I wouldn't worry about it. I have a friend who has RA, FM and Osteo and she was 40 yrs. old at the time of approval, and she is now 48 and she has never been reviewed. I am sure it is standard for every state. She is from MA but now lives international. I do agree as noted above, that it may depend on the age and the diagnosis, but most of the time once you are on SSDI as long as you keep following up w/ your docs, you shouldn't worry. Good Luck. I also was told by an attorney that it is very rare once you have been approved for SSDA to have it taken away. You are on the Lupus forum, so I don't think you will be denied when reviewed. Lupus is not something that goes away. How old are you? How long have you been on SSDI?

Diagnosed with Lupus in June 2004. I was 29 at the time. Filed for disability shortly thereafter and won my case. Took approximately 3 months for their decision. My award letter stated that I would be reviewed every 3 years. Just received the long form for a CDR in the mail last week. Looks like they are about 4 years behind as it has been 7 years since I started receiving SSDI. Very nervous about filling it out and sending it back. They only give you about 2 weeks to have your paperwork completed and sent back in. Anyone else with Lupus on SSDI gone through the review process?
