Polymyositis, Pregnancy & Herpes

 

My husband & I are wanting to plan on having a baby.  I have had Polymyositis for 9 years and with the help of meds, my disease has been in remission for 3 years.  Just this past year I have had problems with high triglycerides.  I currently take Imuran 150 mg,Prednisone 10 mg, & Wechol.  I also have Herpes, in which I take Valtrex on an as needed basis.   

Is it possible to have a healthy pregnancy/fetus while on these meds?  Is there any trace of this disease being inherited by the baby? 

Here is an article from a well known researcher at Johns Hopkins explaining what is known about AI diseases.  There is a genetic factor involved but most are NOT true genetic diseases.  For instance, a rare myositis disease called sporadic inclucion body myositis is not but there is an even rarer form that is, hIBM.

AI diseases do tend to run in families and that has been statistically documented but not necessarily the same disease.  The article explains the role of heredity in most AI disease as well as how triggers work.

When 1st diagnosed with Polymyositis 10 yrs ago I was severly weak. I could not rise from a laying position, walk for any distance, very tired, I would pass out without any warning, CPK levels were above 13,000!! Muscles hurt all the time.

Now with my disease in remission my CPK levels are at 150. My upper body/arms still have some weakness but I have recoved all muscle strength in my lower body.

NO morning sickness at all!!! =) Has been a wonderful pregnancy so far.

I am feeling great. Blessed to not have had any flare ups. Medications have not had to be elevated as of yet.
