I was diagnosed with Lupus in late August 2011. Imagine my surprise when my primary doctor suggested that I see a Rheumatologist because my alleged sprained ankle appeared to be more acute than I thought. Well, sure enough, I have lupus. Started on Prednisone and the then Plaquenil. Things were going well and I thought maybe this lupus thing is not so bad after all. Yesterday, all of a sudden I got hives all over my body. Thought again it was something that I ate. When the same thing happened again today, I started wondering if it was related to Lupus...based on my online research it might.

Plan to see my rheumatologist on Tuesday, but was just wondering if anyone with Lupus has experienced hives.

hives can be an allergic reaction to a medication. talk to your doctor to see if there is a possible test you can do to rule out the medications you are on.

forgot to mention, hives can also be allergies of foods, something in the air, drinks, stress, so on

On the 'Magical Mystery Tour" that we call lupus, it can evidence itself as anything it wants to, and that varies from day to day and person to person. In many medical and nursing textbooks it is referred to as "the great imitator" and seems to be regarded by many as one of the hardest things to diagnose. Hang tough,

ps. just this past week or two, I have had odd bumps on my arms that itch alot. I am SO not! enjoying the scratching. I feel like a dog with fleas...... hmnmnmn...... tongue

Hi! I was diagnosed with lupus about a month ago and started on plaquenil right away. A week later I was covered in hives and then had hives the next day too. We went to the doctor and he said it is an allergic reaction. Since I stopped the medication I haven't had that problem anymore! Hope this helps!

"Hives" was the initial symptom my wife had before all the other symptoms started. Now being on her meds, that and fever are the only symptoms she doesn't have. Were you out in the sun?

Since you are so new to lupus, it will take awhile to see how it exhibits itself in you. Certainly check with the dr. to see if it's an allergy to the meds but I find I can get hives very easily. Sometimes it happens after I work out and sweat a lot. Sometimes I get them when the chemicals in our hottub aren't right. Keep some hydrocortisone handy. It really helps calm down the itching. Aveeno calming relief cream also helps. Good luck!

how abt hives after or during dry /wet sauna?

I get flat red places. Sometimes it looks like a scratch, sometimes it's a small round shape. It doesn't itch at all.
They look bright red like a pressure spot, but nothing touched the spots they show up at. They fade away after an hour or so.

I would not really recommend a sauna for Lupus patients. Our tendency is towards more inflammation rather than less, and heat, esp. heat that might affect our core body temperature, is really not very good for us. It generally gives me a flare.
