Do you dye your hair?

I'm prematurely gray and I want to keep dying my hair. I've dyed my hair for 20 years every three months, but this time when I dyed it the dye stung like fire.

I don't have sores on my head at least I've hadn't felt any.

I read somewhere that people with lupus should avoid hair dye. Is this true? confused

I don't know the answer to your question couchtater but I know dye has always stung the crap out of my head! I now buy goldwell off the internet. It's a professional dye and I mix it myself. It seemed to be the only one that doesn't bother me. I get the topchic and the 6% developer. I'd be interested to hear what others say about this.

I used to highlight regularly without issues, but the longer I have lupus the more sensitive my skin has become. There are some new products coming out that are supposed to be more natural and less caustic, but I haven't tried them yet. (My color seems to be less popular and hence one of the last produced.)

I know in UK there is a lot of discussion about hair dyes that are the dark colours as they have a chemical in them that has been found to cause bad reactions even if used many times before and possibly, I say possibly as they are still doing studies, cause (think it was off top of my head) bladder cancer. Also this chemical has been banned in many countries but still allowed in UK, not sure about US. There are organic hair dyes available over the internet and at hairdressers, these may be a better idea as they seem not to contain the chemical that most commonly causes bad reactions. Have a look online, they are def available in UK and would have thought you could get them in US as well. Always do the 24-48 hour patch test before using to check no reaction.

Maybe next time I'll get some of that kind that boasts it's all natural products. I've got about three months to search for natural ingredients. I dye my hair light blond so no fear of the dark shades' chemicals.

My daughter does my hair now. I can't remember what she used this last time but it was supposed to be more nourishing for my hair and more gentle on my scalp. I will ask her the next time I talk to her. :)

I think it depends on whether you're going darker or lighter
When I bleach my hair for a blonder or more highlighted look, the bleach burns.
Putting in lowlights or a color rinse (red, brown) however doesn't seem to burn me at all.
You might try one of the hair dye brands sold at the health food store? They are supposedly "more natural". My mom has used them to good effect.

I spoke too soon about not having bumps on my head. Today I found a whole bunch all over my head! Grrrrrr!

I am super prematurely grey A curse I can thank my father for and I guess thyroid disease. I have to take a valium now just to do anything to my hair because it is still falling out so so badly.....I just don't know why it won't stop falling out!!!!!!! I cry and cry when i have to wash my hair I try and NEVER touch it if i can help it. Thank God because of the thyroid disease and possibly the Lupus my hair is dry and doesn't get greasy because I would be in big big trouble. I just wish it would quit falling out!

I have the white "sideburns" and now am shot through with white, but I'm also approaching 60.
I had thought about dying my hair years ago but am too frightened of the chemicals in the products.
I know the herbal shops have some that are plant based without the chemicals. Give it a shot.

Three years ago (when I was 40) I decided not to dye my hair for about six months to find out my true hair color. I'm salt and pepper all over. I used to have beautiful golden blond hair when I was younger. Now I had more gray hair than my 75 yr old father!

I want to color my hair for at least 7 more years until I'm 50 yrs old. I'm not thrilled over stopping it but if I have endure another painful dye job then I will stop them. (sniff)
