How many of you suffer with this?

I've been having these strange red welts pop up on me for no reason (at least it seemed). Today out of curiousity I very gently took my fingernail and wrote on my stomach. I saw nothing at first then slowly a red welt developed. Within two minutes I could see exactly what I wrote in a red raised welt. It took about 20 minutes for it to fade away.

I looked this weird reaction up and it said it was dermatographia. I read it can flare up when your immune system is out of wack.

What else is Lupus going to throw at me??? mad

I've been sitting here...I guess you might say playing...writing my name on myself. :)))

It says it's not serious unless it becomes bothersome.

Right now it's just weird...

If you're at work, it could be bothersome that you're writing your name on yourself! That could become serious! lol

Basically, I figure our skin gets more sensitive with our over-active immune systems, AND it gets thinner and more sensitive with prednisone. So unless it sticks around more than a couple of weeks, or hinders (via intense itching or such) my day, I try not to worry about it.

So far that's worked out and (as a light-skinned person who grew up outside in Fl without sunscreen in the 1960s-70s) I keep to my annual dermo exam.

This is after about 5 minutes elapsed time. You have similar results? I've tried antihistamines, that doesn't touch it.

Lynn, I'm on winter break. No work for two weeks! :))
My students have already seen my "weird" rashes. They take it all in stride like 7 yr olds do.
I'm seeing my lung doctor tomorrow about my asthma giving me fits lately and my ribs hurting some. I see my rhuemy on Wednesday. I don't have Dermotologist. Hadn't had a need yet. Guess that has changed... :(
I'm a very freckled golden blond. I nevered tanned during my younger years, just burned. I didn't play outside a lot as a kid I perferred the indoors more.

WOW! That picture was amazing.  I had no idea it could welt up like that.  That was only after 5 minutes?  How long did it take to go away?

Are you FRIGGIN kidding me. It is so weird, I have been waking up looking like I got into a cat fight or something, or I very lightly scratch and I get a full blown raised up welt. I have scratched them open evidentally because they are open usually. I am going to talk to my Dr on Tues when he gets back in the office but .......REALLY????? SERUIOUSLY???? LOL I am going bald, about half an idiot most of the time, I have to admit the steroids are working on the "tinman syndrome" but my mouth nose and eyes are dry as a desert, really indescribably dry....now my skin is like filo dough???? WOW never a dull moment I guess.

I get that catfight look in the mornings too, Peggy. Mostly on the side I sleep on.
I try to buy pjs with flat seams so they don't dig in too bad.
I sleep with a Cpap so when I wake up in the morning I have a red ring around my nose and mouth. The place where the straps are are deep red strips. Thank goodness by the time I leave for work it's faded away.
