anyone taking alendronic acid?

 Been prescribed 70mg alendronic acid after signs of osteophrosis! Side affects look scarey sad really worried! wish there was something i could do to avoid taking them,unsure what to do.

Generally known as Fosomax, alendronic acid has been used for holding off further calcium depletion after osteoporosis has been spotted for quite some time. I took it for a while without side effects, but had a hard time remembering it.

There is also a once-a-month version as well as an IV shot that I think lasts 3 months (both of these have different names). I haven't had side effects from either of those.

Am not taking either anymore after making sure I'm doing some weight-bearing exercise, eating lots of calcium, taking a calcium supplement, and no longer taking the calcium-depleting prednisone. And having subsequent bone scans that show calcium levels are increasing -- no longer decreasing.

I hope you have similar positive results.

Thankyou so much Lynwood,it's a while since i've been on here,i must have been happy and doing well just busy getting on with life but i've been suffering with back pain and hip pain and a few years ago i had exrays showing signs of ostioporosis and was given calcichew D3 however i have to admit the pain seemed to ease off and i used to forget to take calcichew for about a year which sounds silly now.

I have'nt had a bone scan for a few years now so i guess my doctor is going on the fact that the pain i have been in for a continuous two months or so needs attention and prescribed the alendronic acid! One 70mg tablet to be taken whilst sitting up or standing...i read the possible side affects and went to bed in tears...i know since all the other med i have had to take for years it's just one more but this one really bothered me! I was wondering what i could do to avoid taking it! Anything seemed better than taking that....but of course not causing futher problems but its really made me have a plan to put myself on a srtict diet to lose weight and see if i can build up to doing some exercise,i'm at least a stone over a comfortable weight and excercise is easier that stone lighter! I was considering buying a vibration plate excersise machine to help me gain some strength to get started,i would be interested how you introduced more calcium into your diet to help yourself to such a degree!      Well Lynwood you did'nt suffer side effects and a friend of my mums took them without suffering any that she can remember so i'm going to start them next week.

     Think i just got really depressed recently trying to deal with a flare and could'nt cope with anything else!

    I've got myself a more calcium rich diet of the net so that should help and when i feel a bit more mobile i must start the excercise yeah
