Do you get ingrown fingernails?

It seems like I get ingrown fingernails all the time, but I think mostly in winter. I have 2 currently, but have had as many as 9 at one time. The nail grows into the sides of the finger at the base. I did find that certain nail conditions are associated with lupus, so I'm not worried. I'm just curious if I'm the only one.

post script: I'm up at 4 am due to a depomedrol shot and prednisone taper in an effort to stop this nasty flare I'm having. Love, Butterflake

my big toes ingrow all the time, I've learned a few tricks from my doctor so I take care of it myself

Hi! Everyone,

Me, too. Me, too. My big toes freq. get ingrown, and because I stumble alot, my toenails have been close to being ripped off several times, and that corner is the bad one. And my nails, are a mess. They peel, split, crack, bleed, and have vertical ridges, and I can't grow them out to save my life. My cuticles are worse and I end up picking at them. I have been wondering about those new acrylic?? coating, because I would love to have nice nails for a change. Nail hardener just never helped.

Is it spring yet??

At the base, not at the end of the finger? Unusual!

Do you think keeping the cuticles (the part over the nail bed) pushed back and trimmed might help? Don't cut, use a cuticle dissolver and cuticle cream with a orangewood stick.

I've never had issues with fingers, used to have a problem with a toe or two, but have learned not to cut the nail too close and that seems to have fixed it.

Pterygium: This fingernail problem is characterized by the advancement of the skin around the nails towards the inside of the nails. This condition needs immediate medical attention and treatment.

Does that fit?

I've tried 3 times typing this reply and keep getting booted off. Anyway thanks for your input ladies. Glad to hear I'm not alone. I read lupies get this as the result of inflamed small blood vessels at the nail bed. I have a hard enough time sleeping- I don't need a nail bed. Love, Butterflake

Yup my big toes are always ingrown, my cousin who has the same thing I do had to have hers removed.

My niece's toenails are weird. They look paper thin and warped looking. She's waiting to see a Rheumy about her high RNP.

That's too funny Butterflake, my fingernails and toe nails are all very thin and wrippled very weird.

Here is another nail weirdo. My big toes are ingrown on occasion. The odd thing though...they start to get really thick at the top, get pearl white looking, then blood pools at the lower half of the nail and spreads up as the nail grows. The thickness grows out until it is ready to do it again.

My rheumatologist doesn't have a clue, says if it continues, he can send me to a podiatrist. I think I will keep my $$$$$$.

Moky, My father had the same thing happening to his toe nail for five years. He finally went to the podiatrist when it kept bleeding. The podiatrist took a biopsy and discovered skin cancer. His tip of his toe had to be amputated because he let it go so long. Get it checked.
