Help from those who have successfully gotten their Soc Sec Disability

I don't think anyone really gets approved the first time around. Answer all the questions as asked, PLUS include letters from all your doctors that say what your diagnosis is and when, if ever, they expect a return to work. What restrictions do they put on your activities? I think there is a form for doctors to fill out as well that includes that info -- make sure these DR forms are all there, they are one of the more important pieces. Make sure you have copies of everything you fill out and mail to Social Security Administration, plus post office verification it was delivered to the addressees. My forms got lost more than once so I missed deadlines and was turned down. After that happened a couple of times, I contacted an experienced Social Security Disability law firm, that appealed for me, and I was approved. I started the paper work in June or July and received my lump sum by around March. That was faster than most people I know of. Thankfully, I had been treated with Lupus-related health problems for years and had medical records available to confirm it. Keeping a health log also helped in my appeal. I was able to document how the chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and memory problems interefered with my career as an elementary teacher and with my daily life. Don't give up! Just stay on top of things and be your own self-advocate. I really recommend a SS Disability law firm in your state that has years of experience, success, and recommened by people who have used them successfully. I was able to handle all of mine via mail and telephone. I never had to go to the law firm and never met the attorney representing me. The attorney will get a federally regulated percentage of the SS Disability settlement. Your only costs could be copies of medical records they acquire and submit for you.

I was one of the lucky ones, took 2 months, 3 wks, and a day for my SSD to be approved. I lucked out, I was offered an appt. to see the SSA MD. due to a cancellation almost immediately after I sent in my application. The paperwork was scary, but I made two copies of everything, and completed one page at a time, erased, rewrote, then simplified everything, then copied it over to the copy I sent by certified mail. Good luck.
