Arm tingling and numb

Help!! I've got a weird problem. Today around 10:30am my whole arm started tingling and feeling numb. My hand seems to change colors (bright red with white spots and dark red with bluish spots) and feel tight. The tingling and numb feeling seems worse in my hand. It also feels a little clumsy. I feel a slight pain in my shoulder but it's very mild. My hand is not cold and the weather is very warm (77). I keep the air conditioner at 77 degrees.

I don't think it's a stroke because I can smile in the mirror and my smile is normal. Also I can stick out my tongue normal. My heart feels fine. I am coughing some from the pollen.

This has gone on all day with no relief. I've shook my hand to get the blood flowing, rubbed it, pinched it, and held it up high. Nothing helps!

Any ideas on what's happening? Do I need to see the doctor right away or can I wait until my appointment on April 3rd? confused

Hi Joy,

Is there any possibility that you hurt your back or neck? It almost sounds like a pinched nerve somewhere.

You probably should at least call your primary care doctor and let them know what is happening. They may want you to be checked out.

I didn't hurt my back or neck. I was feeling fine until right then.
It's very frustration.
If I still feel it tomorrow I'll go to urgent care.

I hope you are feeling better now. If not, I would encourage you to get treatment sooner than later. There are other things that can cause the symptoms you are having. A few of them are TIA, or neuropathy from high blood sugar.

I'm not a doctor so I am not trying to diagnose you. Just worried about you!!

Do you have a nurseline from your medical insurance company that you can call? They could probably answer your questions and direct you to the proper care.

Most of the time when I call my nurseline they tell me to go to the ER.
The numbness and tingling are gone today. However I woke up three times last night with my hand sound asleep.
Today my palm feels tight and tender.

I am curious if it might be inflammation pressing on a tendon or nerve! I had it happen quite a bit when my joints were the main issue. Prednisone always teook it away!

I'm glad you are doing better today. I know how uncomfortable it is to have symptoms of something and not know what it is all about. It makes nervous.

Hopefully, it will totally go away and be gone.

I agree with what Amy said, it could be inflammation.

The feeling is gone today, so I figure it was a pinched nerve going on.

I have no idea what caused the nerve to get pinched. I'm not an active person. I hate sports because I have no cordination. I'm always tripping or getting hit by the ball.
My life consists of me crawling out of bed 4 days a week at 5:45am to go teach first graders. Come home at 5pm to supper already prepared by my mom (we share a house). I go to my room to rest from the day until 9pm and back to bed. The other three days I go to the store, church, and rest.

This weekend was the most active I've been in a long time. We pulled up my niece's carpeting and laid down a new subfloor. I also personally ripped an old cast iron fireplace mantel from the wall today. It was a solid hour of hammering, chipping, and pulling with all my might. I was drenched in sweat by the time I was done. I'm paying for the work now...my back is killing me!

You could of been pinched a nerve. I do that in my sleep! Honey, don't be ashamed of no cordination -- my biological mother had to catch me and the 4 drinks I was carrying as I tripped over those dang invisible things. Not sure how she did it, but she managed to save me and the drinks. Anyhow, go see a chiropractor

This is just one of my many symptoms, happens to me ALL the time. Exactly how you described it minus the coughing. I am still waiting on diagnosis, but my ER doctor seemed concerned but thought it more like a another symptoms to what was already going on.

I found out it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
