fevers- non stop

Good morning...
I have not been diagnosised so I am not sure if I belong here....but I was hoping if someone could answer a question for me. Did anyone have a long term fever as a symptom prior to be dx?

Here is my rollercoaster ride...started back in Dec. with a bronchitis which dragged on for 7 weeks (figured out it must have been viral after 3 antibotics didnt work) after congestion was gone I still continued with the fever and fatigue. My Dr did a ton of bloodwork and it showed overactive thryoid.Spent next 3 months focusing on that when a specialist called my thryoid problems viral starting from the bronchitis....said time will heal and thyroid levels are normal and the fevers are not related. So this whole time I have had fevers and varying levels of fatigue. The last few weeks, not only has the fevers and fatigue been constant but I have had joint pain also. Been to my primary doctor who is very concerned because he cant come up with an answer. I have had 2 negative Ana. Because the joint pain is relatively new( though last yr I thought I had carpal tunnel and different dr said no...just overuse), he is referring me to a Rheum Dr. He is also wondering, like I, if this is beginning stages of lupus or something close.

I dont want to be stretching for results but my face every morning is red across my nose and cheeks. My chin has had a rash all week after being in the sun last weekend. I have had alot of hairloss...and I know those things can be related to something else but we just cant get to the bottom of the fevers.

So really, I am just wondering if anyone has had an experience with extended fevers?

Your symptoms do sound a lot like lupus, but to diagnose you here would be an injustice to you and myself.

Sometimes a lupus diagnosis comes from figuring out what it's not. Give it time to figure it out. Some people have to wait years to get an answer, because lupus is the great mimic. It can disguise itself very easy.

Thank you for your reply Joy.

I am definitely learning patience...which is not my strong point. I do know time will tell and I am greatful for a primary care Doctor who is concerned. I see after reading that many people really struggle with the medical profession. I have learned so much already (without getting overwhelmed) by reading and I hope this isnt the path I ultimately end down...but if it is...it is nice to know that there others who ask questions too.

I get really bad fevers when I'm about to flare and while I'm in flare. Sometimes I get them just because it's Thursday. Such is life. I haven't found any good way to combat them unless I go on steroids, which I only do if the pain/inflammation gets really bad.

This is how I figure it: In "healthy" bodies, a fever is a way of the body heating up to kill bacteria or a virus. It's actually a good, helpful thing, and a symptom that something underlying is happening. I figure my body THINKS something is wrong, hence the overactive immune system, and gets a fever to kill off the imaginary bacteria. Not sure how scientific that is, but it's all I've got.

Hang in there. Monitor your temp throughout the day. (Weird temps can also be a sign of thyroid disfunction and other things.)

Thank you for the responses. The fever has continued...it has been almost 7 months. Joint pain comes and goes. My face still looks like sunburn and it definitely gets worse in the sun or at work. Rash on chin and noticing small rash like spots on scalp,. Hair loss continues. Fatigue is so real and weird. I can be doing somewhat ok with my energy level and then i feel like I hit a brick wall and need to stop and relax for a while. If I slow down immediately, I usually just need a break of 10 or 15 minutes then feel ok again. (Not great, but ok). If I push myself too hard, then I need a nap.

I say a Rheumy last week and he took bood tests and had me do a bone scan. Everything showed negative. So I don't know whay his plan is for me.

I just want relief.

Hi Theresa!

I was curious if you ever found out what caused your fevers, and if they stopped? I am new here, and I have been experiencing the same. I have seen my primary, neurologist, infectious disease who ruled out all infections/viruses. Now I am seeing a Rheumatologist (my infectious disease dr believes it autoimmune) and awaiting results.

oops, brain fry, I've had a continuous fever (100.5-103) for three months.

Hi sunnynights,

Yes I still have constant fevers. They never go away and it has been almost a year. I also have fatigue, joint pain, sometimes extreme exhustion, hair loss, facial redness/rash, and muscle weakness, and a few other things. I have been to many local doctors at a nearby teaching hospital. The infectious dr was great but couldnt find anything. The endo cleared me of thryoid and the Rheumy was just worried about bloodwork and nothing else. (I didnt like him). My primary dr then referred me to the cleveland clinic for a complete workup which had great doctors but they also found nothing. So I am relieved of those results but very frustrated also.

My primary dr is great but right now we are done doing anymore testing. I believe he thinks autoimmune like I do, but we are stuck. I havent found a dr who will treat symptoms instead of bloodwork. So, i wait.
