Okay it's 2:30 am and I'm wide awake!
It's getting worse everyday.
I just want to sleep.

Yes, its terrible. I hate insomnia. Have you considered using sleeping aid such as ambien, lunesta, or muscle relaxers?

I finally broke down and took 2 benadryl. I feel very drugged this morning though.

Benadryl will do that. Sorry you feel drugged. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about
it. Several options and some of them wont leave you feeling drugged up.

Even when taking OTC meds, always check w/dr -- Drs have more experience than pharmacies with the meds they use in their specialties.

My allergist told me I could take once in awhile if allergies are bad.
I'm going to see my sleep specialist in a couple of weeks. She's treating me for sleep apnea. I'll tell her about
the insomnia going on.
Since I don't have to work right now, I can sleep late or nap to catch up on lack of sleep.
Last night I was up until 1:30am. :(

I've tried MANY things over the years at one point or another- ambien, lunesta, benzos, benadryl, magnesium, etc. I was sleeping like a rock after being diagnosed (except when on high-dose steroids at first), until going on plaquenil. I started taking Melatonin. 5mg didn't do anything for me, but 10 works great. I take it at least an hour before bed, and I don't get a drowsy feeling from it and I certainly don't feel groggy the next morning. Definitely ask your Dr, obviously, as I know it may stimuluate the immune system- and could instigate a flare. I have never had any problems, and I've been taking it for about
six months. Good luck!

I used to take melatonin before being diagnosed. I was advised to stop it.

One of the ways I monitor disease activity is by how well I sleep. I know what it is to not sleep one minute the whole night. My program is to monitor what was eaten the day before. Were there any inflammatory foods? How much exposure to UV radiation happened? Stress today? Germ exposure? Then I try not to do that again. But that night I start with a benedryl, Ibuprofen, fish oil, tumeric vitamin D. If all of this fails, I take a prednisone pill. That usually works sadly. Andrea
