so scared! lupus what?

so ever since i had my 4th c section and baby last june i havnt been feeling myself, sore hands and feet at night, then stiff in the am, tingling lips and face, tired, no energy, moody. i just egnored this untill last week went for blood work. went today for the results everything looked great except i was positive for ana, i was so confused thinking so what does this mean am i dying? he told me he thinks its lupus. i was terrified. i am going to see a specialist when i get in about 3 months it could take. i phoned my step mom who informed me that i have 2 family memebers on my dads side with lupus. is this hereditary? also why after i had my last baby did these symptoms come? im so scared! but untill i have all the answers i want to get more healthy and feel better. any advise would be great! i have 4 kids under 8 and they need my energy! fyi i am only 26 yrs old!

Lupus is not a death sentence. However there is no cure right now. It's a disease of inflammations. Your body is basically attacking yourself. Your antibodies are confused and are going after healthy tissue. If you see your doctor regularly and watch out for problems you'll live a full life. Go to lupus.org to read up on it more.

Lupus does seem to run in the family. The trigger that starts it is unknown. It also affects everyone differently.
Your doctor will evaluate you and decide what medications will work for you. Most likely you'll start out on plaquenil. Plaquenil will help with the fatigue and help slow down lupus. Sometimes they start you right off on predisone for inflammation.

I've had lupus for over a year now. I have the sore hands and feet, stiffness, tiredness, and mood swings too. You will learn to pace yourself and depend more on others for help on bad days. Now's the time to start teaching your children (and mate) how to help you out more.

The kids can learn at an early age to pick up toys and things off the floor. Make it a game for reluctant ones. You can hand plates and forks to the oldest and have them help set the table. Put laundry baskets in everyone's room and make sure they have wheels so they can be dragged to the laundry room. Find little things they can do to help you so you're not doing everything. Another thing to remember "a little dust can wait". Don't go full tilt and wear yourself out.

Turmeric Curcumin 500mg 4-6 a day helps with the inflammation. You should check with your doc. or pharmacist first. I also take 4-1000 mg. of fish oil and 3-1300mg evening in primrose. The primrose will change your ANA test to neg. in a lot of cases. It is important to keep a balanced diet and total proper nutrition. Go online and find the trigger foods that you need to avoid. Your goal will be to do everything you can to put the Lupus into remission. It does change your life, but attitude is everything. Don't let it stop you, you are who you are and not a lupus girl. You are the person you have always been who just happens to have lupus.

Welcome to our forum Robinan. I sincerely hope you do not get diagnosed with lupus, but keep in mind that stress can cause lupus to flare so try your best to stay calm. Like Joy said, if you take care of yourself you can live a long life. Also keep in mind that every case of lupus is different. Some lupies will have a flare (pain, fatigue, etc) that lasts one week, once a year while others are frequently sick. Please refer to our references at the top of the forum.

This is important: if you are breast feeding do not take any meds (even supplements) without consulting your doc.
