Im a newbie to this forum, but would love to meet friends online who can relate to what I am going through.
I was diagnosed with SLE in 1993 and have fought this tooth and nail for all these years. I was also diagnosed with RA, I have high blood pressure and that's about it.
I managed all these years on daily doses of ibuprofen, plaquenil and when I flared I would do steroids and then taper off.
Recently I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and my tummy was in horrible shape because of the NSAIDs. So my rhue Dr. Started me on cellcept.
Ughhhhhh now its only been 5 weeks but I have more pain then ever! I feel horrible!
I am on 1500 mgs and will go to 2000.
I promised him that I'd try it for 3 months....
Does it ever get better? Love, Happy Nana. :)

Are you taking anything to pacify your stomach? Like Prilosec OTC or anything?

I took Cellcept to quiet some Lupus inflammation in my brain & joints, and it worked well for me without any stomach distress. I did take it with food. (So yes, it does get better!)

It seems to me you should be on something to help calm and heal your stomach -- I don't think Cellcept has anything to do with that unless the "tummy in horrible shape" means it's full of inflammation. And while Cellcept may help the inflammation in the long term, it isn't going to do anything short term.

In any case, you should not be feeling worse. I recommend you have another chat with this Dr and ask more questions.

I agree. U may need to ask something to pacify your stomach. I used to take omerprazole, which is a prescribed drug.

I love Cellcept although it's expensive. I havn't had joint pains for ages since I have started it, and my raynuald seems getting better.  Cellcept also keeps my flare under control. I am down from full dosage (2000 mg) to 1000 mg in the morning and 500 mg in the evening. I take them on empty stomach as advised by my Rhumty because the body absorb better. I do not have any stomach inflammation issues for this med. I do have occassionally diarhhea due to one of the sign effects.

When I took Cellcept a few years ago, I felt better than I had in years. I suffered from no side effects whatsoever. I hope it works for you and that your tummy problems subside.

Cellcept has been wonderful for me (1500mg a day) but my rheumie told me it won't help joint and muscle pain. He said it's great on photosensitivity and nerve problems which are two of my biggies and it has proven to be just that! :)

i think predisposition is use to treat lupus in the Caribbean is this the best drug to use? its a great on photo sensitivity and nerve problems in Lupus.

Do you mean prednisone? It is used to treat inflammation - which most people with Lupus have. It treats particular symptoms like photo-sensitivity or nerves only indirectly.
