Hi SouthernChick. Have you seen a rheumatologist? They are the docs who diagnose/treat lupus. There are 11 criteria used in diagnosing lupus and you must meet 4 of the criteria to say you have lupus. Lupus.org changed their format so this link is to WebMD
http://lupus.webmd.com/guide/lupus-systemic-lupus-erythematosus-exams-and-tests and you'll see that ANA is only a small part.
The heart palpitations can be caused by many things. If you're having lots of anxiety (about your health) palpitations could be from a panic attack. Yeah, allergic reactions might cause palpitations, but you really need to be concerned about anaphylaxis which causes your tongue to swell and you can't breathe.
If you haven't had an ECG since the palpitations started, ask your primary care doc to run one. It's an easy test that detects many heart problems.
I'm curious about your tick rashes and why you get so many ticks. If the rash was shaped like a target (spot in center with ring around it) you could have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Also there are ticks that only feed at night that cause tick relapsing fever. These ticks can live in bedroom walls that have cracks.
Regardless, next time you have heart problems you really need to go to the ER. Love, Butterflake
