Good news!

I love my hubby. We were having a conversation the other day when I told him that my knitting has imoroved. I started knitting during the first year after my lupus diagnosis because 1) I was so beyond bored lying on the couch all day watching tv and 2) because my hands hurt so much that I wanted something to distract me from the pain. As I improved to the point that I could join others on the sofas in our yarn store, I realized that learning to read patterns was harder for me than most. I attributed it to age.

A year or so I suddenly stopped knitting and later learned that I'd had a stroke. A good friend inspired me to start knitting again & since then I've been knitting like a crazy woman. I'm able to knit more intricate patterns and knit faster than before. My husband was Looking at a baby sweater I'm working on when I told him all of this. He said, "it makes sense. Your lupus is better so you can think better.

That's when it hit - my BRAIN FOG is lifting. It's as though the sun has come out.

Don't give up! Lupus is something we live with but we don't have to turn over our lives to it.

That is fantastic!!! I knit. It helps me focus and keeps my hands busy. It also helps me to unwind when I have had a stressful day at work. When my hands hurt too much, I just do less.

Two tabs of Norco a day were clearly adding to my lupus fog and I noticed a big difference in my mental clarity when I stopped taking the pain med. What finally pushed me over the finish line was when, 6 weeks ago, I gave up sugar, flour, and processed foods. My experience has confirmed the importance of A) taking care of myself and b) being proactive with my health and well being. As I'll bet you've all experienced, it was awful hard to be proactive by eating right, exercising, etc. when i didn't feel well enough to get out of bed.

Do I still hurt? Yes.

Do my joints get hot and painful? Yes.

Do I still look like a crazy woman at the beach when I'm covered head to toe sitting under an umbrella because the sun is my enemy? Yes.

Do I still stay home 98 nights out of 100 because I'm too fatigued to go out? Yes.

But do I feel enormously grateful and blessed to be so much better than I was just a couple of years ago? Yes yes yes.

Don't give up folks. I wanted to so many times but am so glad that I didn't.

Love your post! This is very uplifting with awesome advice too. When your whole world is falling apart you have got to have your wits about ya! That is what they say.

It is golden you have got to reset your attitude it really changes everything!

Do you sell any of your work?. I would love to have one of those typical cozy, warm homemade sweaters done in shades of browns.

I crochet a bit. Everyone I love has got a really great scarf or throw.

I donate baby blankets to the teen centre. Even though they have babies very seldom do they have cars. I make them really thick and large. I feel good knowing the babies are warmer too.

I remember the fog too... it did lift eventually for me too. High Five! Love great news.
