Raynauds can be a primary disease as well as a secondary condition that commonly accompanies autoimmune disease like lupus, scleroderma, myositis and others. Cause is unknown but it makes the vessels to spasm, particularly in fingers and toes which restricts blood flow causing the white, purple color. I developed it shortly after lupus appeared but it has gradually gone away over the years and is now barely noticeable. Severe cases can be treated with meds.

I am a cold weather person, a life long, hard core skier and the first 2 seasons back to skiing after I got sick were very difficult. Now my fingers are pretty normal and I can enjoy being out in the cold without worrying.
