tight feeling in legs

OMG!! What the heck just happened to me? All day my legs have been hurting but around 4:00 when I was walking out of work my legs became tight almost as if I were flexing a muscle, if you all know what I mean, and painful to walk. What is that? I'm almost afraid of the answer!!!

Anyone know or have had this happen to you?

Sounds like a muscle spasm. Have you tried massaging bengay in it?

nope not muscle spasm. i know what that feels like. this was different almost like rock hard and it hurt to walk debilitating almost.

That's odd. I've never heard of a muscle doing that before.

Dear Snowcone -

Any chance you might be in the midst of a prednisone taper? Muscle stiffness and severe pain can be a sign of withdrawl. I just happened to be doing some reasearch on prednisone withdrawl this evening! ;-)

HI,

Don't know if this is what you are describing but when I have overdone it, my legs will hurt and lock up on me. They get really stiff and it is hard to bend my knees and ankles. It goes away if I sit down and rest.

hi guys!

Joy I'm not doing any better. The best way to describe this pain is like after an intense workout that burn from over doing it. Only it hasn't gone away in my case. Nina2 I'm not on a prednisone taper. And Mary Ann its kind of like that but like I said the pain and stiffness hasn't gone away.

I have an appointment with my rheumy on Tuesday. I had some bloodwork done last week so I'm hoping he'll have some kind of an answer for me. I am in so much pain it's ridiculous!! Keep me in your prayers as you all are in mine.

Lupus does also attack muscles and can produce pain, stiffness and weakness. It is also possible (but not likely) that you have an overlap with one of the myositis diseases (polymyositis or dermatomyositis) but the pattern of weakness is usually distinct: symmetrical and affects the proximal muscles around the hip and shoulder girdles.

Dehydration or potassium or magnesium deficiencies can cause problems and often show up in the legs first.

Just a couple of suggestions and I am sure your doctor will find the answer.
