mesenteritis and swollen lymph nodes

When it rains, it pours. I got my CT Scan results back.

There is mild soft tissue stranding in the root of the mesentery extending into the right
lower quadrant. There are mildly enlarged lymph nodes. Findings may related to
mesenteritis. Other infectious, inflammatory, or neoplastic etiologies cannot be
excluded.

I do not clearly demarcate the appendix but there is no obvious evidence of acute
appendicitis. There is some nonspecific mesenteric mesenteric stranding but no obvious
focal large appendix is identified.

Clinical correlation is suggested. The etiology of the mesenteric and right lower
quadrant stranding is unclear. This may be inflammatory, infectious, or even neoplastic
in etiology. Findings may merely relate to mesenteric right is, but given the mildly
enlarged lymph nodes CT follow-up would appear warranted. I cannot completely exclude
appendicitis but no large appendix is identified. Findings are related to appendicitis.
Follow-up CT would be warranted to reevaluate this area.


I guess go big or go home....LOL...
I take it this is the lupus showing itself. How do they treat this? I am trying to get my first rheum you appt bumped up from the 18th. I am on high priority cancellation;(

Sounds to me like they haven't figured out anything, and that what they did find has to be correlated with clinical findings -- which is of course the Drs job.

Nothing, in my opinion, points to Lupus, but nor does it point away from Lupus. Probably time to stop the research and take a deep breathe and trust the Dr to do his/her job.

Well, the thing is --- any/all inflammation can certainly be a rheumy/Lupus issue. The problem is finding a source of the inflammation - if they find a source, then that's the cause. If they don't find a source, it's from Lupus.

My GP consulted with my regular GI and told her just to rescan me in two months. How frustrating considering I am so distended (9 month prego distended) and only eating liquid, abdomen on fire, and miserable. I see another GI specialist at Indiana University tomorrow and I pray the Rhuemy can help. I don't want to be stuck like this.

I just saw the GI at Indiana University. He said the mesenteritis is systemic and Lupus related. He doesn't think the abdominal bloating and distention is Lupus related. He said it is inflammation of the abdominal wall (i know inflammation..lol) but wants to rule out infection. He said my stomach is burning and stretching whenever I eat and the wonderful 9 month prego look is either inflammation or infection. So he ordered blood tests---crp, vit d, folate, vit b-12, and samples for C. Diff and caleprotechin (sp). He advised me NOT to miss the Rhuemy appt on the 18th and he was going to send his findings and results to Rhuemy.

Then---The Rheumy calls and says they have a cancellation for tomorrow at 8:15 and I jumped on it!!!! FINALLY RELIEF is coming! Thank God because the lady who drew my blood said I can't have any more blood drawn from my right arm as it is calcifying :( I have been like a pin cushion the past few weeks.


Question:

1. GI started me on Flagyl and I want to take it today. I know the Rheumy will be drawing a ton of blood tomorrow. Will the Flagyl affect any results? I can wait until after the appt to start taking it if need be. At this point, what's 16-18 more hours :)

I saw the Rheumy today and I absolutely love her! She spent an enormous amount of time with me, going over my medical history as well as poking and prodding me. She said I have symptoms of Lupus but she is putting her stamp on nerve hypersensitive syndrome and fibromyalgia. She is still testing for Lupus as well as the others. She feels the nerve hypersensitivity syndrome is causing the abdominal issues. She took a ton of blood tests, urinalysis, and X-rays of my sacraillic joint. She put me on Cymbalta and Neurontin. I follow up in 3 weeks. She also told me to take her scripts only for now! :)
