Hi, I got diagnosed with lupus and sjogrens disease in 2013. I new something was wrong before that for a few years but doctors just said I had arthritis and inflammation. Ive been having the hardest time with severe dry eye and I cant stay on computer long, I cant be around fans and air conditioned rooms are my enemy. I am on plaquenil, methotrexate and ceveline (exovac) for the dry mouth. My eyes get swollen and burns. its so annoying. Im venting now sorry. Just wondering if anyone has the same issues and maybe has some ideas on how to ease the eye issues. I now see a eye doc and have another appt in 2 weeks. I hope I posted in the right place. thanks smhair smhair

You might need to get on Restasis. Are you using drops or gels for your eye drops?

I am on restasis, fish oil too. nothing helps. I use refresh eye drops every hour. I use a warm compress when I have too. I clean my eyes several times a day. Tired of being tired

Did your eye doctor try putting eye plugs in?
I have eyeplugs in and they help the best along with predforte which is a steroid eye drop. Ask your eye doctor about eye plugs, there is also an antibotic eye gel...parsley helps eyes, try adding in parsley to your food...
I have extreme dry eyes and macular degeneration, very early onset for that..

oh that's something I read on, eye plugs. I will bring up the steroid eye drops and antibiotic eye gel thanks so much for the help. parsley? maybe I can use it when I juice. yes I feel like I have extreme dry eyes too. its no fun. if I can just get these eyes under control.

I usually get between 6 months to 1 year on these plugs, most people have them last for over 1 1/2+ years...they do help and your eyes should feel much better once you have them in...the first time they go in there is some pain, but once in they are the best relief...
Try looking for an eye doctor that specializes with Sjogrens, these plugs have been around for awhile, however depending on insurance they might not be covered and if they are its great but they could costs you around $400+. Usually major medical is filed for them, I also just got prescription Costas Sunglassess not covered at all by insurance, but help me, Costas wraps around the face nicely, was worth it for my eyes, save up for them...

Go to walmart and look for "Thermal On" Dry Eye moist heat Compress, its New and you mircowave it..last longer than doing the wash rag at home...much nicer...

wow such great info thank you so much I will look into the plugs and costa wraps. thanks so much for the help. my appt is with a eye doc that specialises is sjogrens and lupus. It took me to the point that I cant function and its interfereing with my job and overall life. I will let you know how it goes.

Yes, eye pain can be horrible. I do know this and experience it first hand. Hope you get relief soon and don't give up....there are many therapies...

I have had eye surgeries( not related to sjogrens), sjogrens and can offer up advise on this. It's good your eye doctor specializes in sjogrens...that's very good...and Welcome to healingwell, this is a great forum, I realy do think once you get the eye plugs you will feel so much more better, you still will need to do eye drops and sometimes compressess..ask your eye doctor about those..
