Need help with test results

Hi everyone. I just received some test results but won't have my follow up until Monday.
Here's a little background:
Early August: Ana positive at 1:320 homogeneous
Two weeks later: Ana positive 1:160 homogeneous
3 weeks later taken at rhuemy (blood work I just received back):
Ana 1:640 nuclear dot
My question is why is the Ana changing and how come the pattern changed? What the heck is nuclear dot? It doesn't specify "few" or "multiple" which apparently makes a difference

My Elisa test says positive at 28 units, however my anti-dsDNA says negative at 75 and anti-smith says negative at .3.

If those 2 tests were negative, why does my blood work label ELISA as positive? Aren't those two tests part of ELISA?

I'm not educated at all regarding the specific lupus testing.

I noticed that everything else on my blood work says negative except "antistreptolysin O Ab" which says 540.4 (0-200 reference range).

Can anyone help me read this and get a better idea?

I think nuclear dot has some association with liver disease of some sort.

It's important to note that the ANA numbers and patterns are only INDICATORS of where the Drs should look for disease symptoms, auto-immune diseases are very tricky and are diagnosed by a collection of symptoms, not on a single blood test.

Yes, anti-dsDNA & anti-smith are part of Elisa -- maybe there is some other test they ran that is part of Elisa that made the overall score positive? I'm just guessing here, most of us don't have these tests.

Sorry not to be of more help, just make sure to write down all your questions so you will remember them when you see the Dr on Monday.

The only thing I could find from "nuclear dot" was also liver related. Which made me cancel my gallbladder removal surgery tomorrow. That just really scares me! I'd hate to have that surgery and not know what is happening with my body first--especially the organ right next door 😥
It seems that the gallbladder polyps and my Ana might end up being related....but it's silly for me to even try to interpret it.

Thinking positive thoughts for you! I don't blame you for cancelling the surgery. So what is next for you? Are you waiting to go back to the rheumy now?

Yes, on Monday, I see the rhuemy. I've totally worked myself up these past few days with that elevated ANA and change of pattern.
I know I will be referred to a Gastro, so I get to endure that long wait too. :(
I'll certainly update when I *hopefully* get some answers from the Rhuemy.

LMD023- what ever happened regarding the Nuclear Dots? Did they determine if your liver was involved? I just had an ANA come back at 1:160, "nuclear dot pattern" and google has me scared out of my mind. I haven't talked to the doctor yet.

Welcome to our forum Lgold789. Since you posted on such an old thread will you introduce yourself on a new post? I'm sure everyone would like to meet you.

I'm not familiar with a nuclear dot pattern on ANA. There is a Speckled pattern that is found in Lupus patients and healthy persons. Sometimes it's Speckled because the fluorescent stain only absorbed specks of the blood sample.

There is also a Nucleolar pattern, but it isn't often seen in Lupus. I hope this doesn't just confuse you more. Regardless, I hope you post again soon. Love, Butterflake
