Hello Everyone!

This is my first post, so please have patience with me.

I was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus 2 years ago.  I have 4 lesions (forehead, between eyes, cheek and under chin) I also have it inside both bottom eyelids and on rim of one upper eyelid.

I have had multiple cortizone injections, the ones on inner lower eyelid are the funnest ones :( The last injections showed no improvement.

And have tried Plaquenil. The Plaquenil upset my stomach. Even tried with food and still couldn't tolerate it.

The spots are like craters as I call them.  They also have white scaley skin on them at times.  Recently, they have started to itch horribly.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to try and get these spots to calm down and not itch and be so red.

Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry your dealing with the lesions so badly right now. There's another post about this. I will try to find it and bump it back up for you.

   You will meet some great people here. We are very close nit and try to help in anyway we can. Please feel free to ask all the questions you want and share anything with us.

Hi M and welcome! I get the lesions too. I have SLE and sub-cutaneous lupus. My derm. has me on azelex cream 2xday and a retinol cream everyother day. I also have rosecia.The azelex cream is soothing and for me makes the lesions go away. The retinol cream takes away the scar tissue. I use very, very mild soap to bathe with. I don't wear make-up except when I'm going out. I was told by my derm. to stay away from drug store make-up and to go to a dept store. She said to make sure the color was a right on match. I use P--------es. It's expensive, but it lasts a long time. They have so many colors to choose from, they can give me an exact match. I'm the palest of pale with blue undertones. The ingredients agree with me and don't make matters worse. I have a huge stack of white wash clothes by the sink. When I itch or burn, I gently blot my face with a clean, cold water soaked wash clothe. It helps a lot. Staying out of the sun helps. Find a good sun screen that agrees with you. Use it everywhere, even the tips of your ears and toes if you wear sandles. I hope that this helps some. Again, welcome and I hope that you get relief soon! Hugs and blessings, Cecelia

Hi there,

just saw this,I have had discoid lupus for some years now and have not had an attack for a few years except I noticed a small mark starting near my elbow and it reminded me how annoying it is.

Ok the only thing I found that worked(now dont laugh) is cornflour

Yes ordinary household cornflour rubbed in by itself a couple times a day

I had cortizone creams I had creams that I cant even remeber what they were and these things kept getting bigger and would last for months....

I read in a newspaper that cornflour was good for rashes and figured I had nothing to lose so I gave it a go and it actually worked,it stopped the lesions from growing and instead of months they were gone within a couple weeks.

I dont know that it works for everyone but give it a go,I am so glad I did

Hi Shandi,

   Welcome to the forum. I don't have problems with discoid lesions, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum and thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm glad to hear that cornflour has helped your lesions so much. I'm sure you will get alot of replies to this. Its amazing that something so simple will help discoid lesions. Hopefully, more people will benefit from this as well.

Hi Mjcjjd and welcome to our forum. It sounds like you tried plaquenil but didn't stay on it because of the stomach problems it gave you. Most of us will tell you that we also suffered from stomach distress, but the stomach problems went away after a couple of months. Mine lasted about three months but got better as time went on and after three months went away completely. I've been on it for three or four years and have absolutely no side effects and wouldn't live without it.

Discoid lupus is something I don't have, but you've gotten some good advice from Babs, Shandi and Cecilia. Hope you get some relief.

Shandi, a big welcome to you too! Glad you guys have joined us. This forum has been a godsend to me. Not only do I get great advice and support, but I've made some wonderful friends here. Hope to hear from you both again.

Your welcome Shandi,

   Your post may get over looked by some of the members in this topic...If you want to start a new topic to introduce yourself you should get alot more welcomes. I look forward to getting to know you better and maybe chatting with you soon in the lupus chat room...we have some members that chat most days around 1pm est and anywhere from 7 to 9pm est. Some of us just left there.  Hope to hear more from you soon.
