problems with new kidney

hey everyone, i havent been on for a bit, i've been busy having to drive to and from atlanta, in less then two weeks i have been there about 4 times and we live about two hours away.  my creatinine has gone up and the docs did a biopsy because they were worried that i 1) could be having "mild" rejection (doc's term not mine) 2) have some scarring on the new kidney or 3) the lupus could possibly be attacking the new kidney.  So i had the biopsy done on tuesday (i was at the clinic on monday too) and the doc called me back and said the preliminary report says no rejection (yay) and not a significant amount of scarring for my labs to be wacky, but that the did see some stuff (i forgot what see called it) that they dont understand and need to wait for the final report before they know exactly what they were looking at.  so she said it may be that the lupus is attacking the kidney, but not the way it did before, whatever that means, or that (as i explained to them on monday) it could be that my two original kidneys have finally stopped working and i have a new base line.  let me tell you, when i told the two docs that were sitting in the room with me that i thought it was, i have never seen jaws hit the floor so quickly, they told me that they never even considered that. for those who dont know i had my kidney transplant my kidneys actually stopped working, i never went on dialysis before the transplant. so now i have another appointment on the 26th so that the doc can go over the final report with me.  you know this really sucks, i have 3 kidneys and only one is working, but what can you do, i guess i still have one that works (bright side).  i'll you guys know what happens.....stay tuned.

Suzanne, you're going through a real scary time! I'm with Stacie in praying that your lupus won't attack your new kidney. If that happened, would you go on dialisis? I just can't imagine how you must feel. Please do keep us updated. Pat

so i got my biopsy report back last week, and its not good, the lupus is back and its in the new kidney. doc said that only about 10% of transplant patients with lupus actually have the lupus return, and of course i am one of the lucky 10%, so needless to say this sucks, they upped my prednisone from 5 mg to 60 mg and we all know how fun that is, and they added another 500mg of cellcept, not to happy with the this fact, i thought that maybe i would get to be one of the lucky ones. and lori thanks for your support, i want you to know that i had my pity party last week and i do feel better now, thanks for all your encouragement and i was glad i had someone to talk to that has some understanding of what its like, cuz i love my family and friends but telling me that all i have to do is take more pills is not the best way to approach me. so thanks a bunch.
