Kind of off topic- lower right side pain

I am not sure of the cause, but I woke up to really sharp pain in the lower right side. I have a hx of functional cysts but the last one was seen on the left side back in May. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything else that could cause sudden sharp pain that disappears and if it could have anything to do with my pregnancy. I am anywhere from 5 1/2-7 weeks depending on exact ovulation date. I am scheduled for an ultrasound and blood work at 11 this morning. I really need some darned sleep but this kind of scared me. I will let you all know if we find anything at the ultrasound and how the baby looks. But if you all know anything that could be causing this I would appreciate ideas. We want this baby so much, and this just is really scary for me. I am returning to bed, but if it happens again I will be waking hubby for a trip to the ER.

((((((ROSE)))))), I'm sorry you are having a bad night. Please try to relax. Hopfully it isn't anything serious, but in the mean time you aren't doing yourself or your little one any good by stressing. Your right about the need to rest I hope you are getting some now. Let us know how the apt goes and how baby rose is doing.

Hi Redrose:

I just wanted to say I'm praying that it's nothing serious with the pain. Did you call your OB and let them know about the nausea you're having? Did they prescribe anything for it? I know that the OB doctors can provide expectant Mom's something to help their morning sickness if it's really bad.

I didn't have morning sickness with Nikita, but I do suffer from severe nausea with my gastroparesis. I try to handle it naturally prior to taking one of the four medications I have. I nibble on saltine crackers, I drink a small amount of tomato juice, or I drink ginger ale w/o the fizz in it. I hope that you get some much needed relief soon and I hope that your pain goes away quickly.

You're in my prayers, take care of yourself and baby.

redrose, I am really praying that your pain has nothing to do with your pregnancy and "baby rose". I remember in my pregnancy after my miscarriage, I was terrified everytime I had pain and/or cramping, so I can relate to what you are going through. I'll be thinking of you and hoping that the ultrasound shows that everything is well. Let us know how it goes. (((((Hugs)))))

Redrose: Sorry to hear about your scare. Please let us know what the doctor thinks. Perhaps inflammation of an organ or something and not the baby causing it. Doesn't sound baby related, but I guess we never know what is going on until they check it out. I hope the doctors can find the cause soon and they can manage it. I really like the name "baby Rose" sounds cool. I'll say a prayer for you both - Wish you the best - Kristin

Well, the ultrasound was fine. We still have no clue about the pain. Seems it may be something totally unrelated, especially since there were no cysts on my ovaries.

Oh no!! Sorry they couldn't tell you anything, but hopefully you will get it figured out. There are some ligaments in there that stretch with the growing baby and it can hurt . . . but then they are pushed out of the way and they stop hurting, so . . . I wonder if that could be it. I just don't remember where in my belly that I felt that pain . . . anyway that was what my doc told me . . . it scared the beejabbers our of me. Prayers for you sis!! Blessings!

I did some research into that because I recall that pain. All the stuff available says that isn't supposed to happen until the second trimester. Though my uterus is positioned oddly- heck they said I would never be able to get pregnant and stay that way for more than 5 weeks. Yet I have done so every single time- I miscarry at 6 weeks when it happens. Luckily I am having morning sickness this time so a miscarriage is unlikely. I am so glad everything is okay and it doesn't appear this pregnancy is ectopic which was the biggest fear when the sharp pain hit. I have to do more blood work monday and will likely have another ultrasound in 2-3 weeks. The pregnancy did not implant long enough ago to see more than the sack. But we saw it and only 1 which is wonderful news because twins would mean a different OB and also many more problems than we know the solutions to. Thanks to everyone for the support and suggestions. I am kind of wondering if the pains were a fluke since they have not reoccurred but I will wait and see before deciding that.

Just because they didn't see any cysts on your ovaries when they did the ultrasound doesn't mean you didn't have one that burst. They hurt when they burst, so it's a possibility that was what you felt. Good news is that the pain hasn't continued. This would all make sense too if it was a cyst that burst. I've always heard that when you have morning sickness that was a good sign ... that it was a good pregnancy. Hopefully that is the case for you! You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Redrose, how are you today with the pain?  I don't want to cause any unnecessary alarm, but the first thing that came to my mind was the appendix.  It's in the lower right side.  Although an attack is always accompanied by nausea, throwing up, and an increase in the pain, etc.

It looks like it was from mild food poisoning- my fridge has decided it hates working all the time and prefers to take breaks when we are not aware. I actually know a lot about appendicitis since my step dad almost died from it when I was a teen. It wasn't bad enough for that.
