Hello All,
It's my first time posting, so I may babble, but, a very close friend of mine was diagnosed with lupus a bit ago and is currently having seizures. Could low blood sugar be a factor? After she had one the other day her blood read 60 on a household monitor. Any feed back would be great!! Thank you all and Take care! smurf

Welcome to the forum Life!! How kind of you to help figure this out with your friend. An understanding friend is a big shortage when someone has a chronic illness like lupus. Thank you for being there for her. You might look at the diabetes forum here at Healing Well and check into the meaning of a 60. My blood sugar has gone as low as 50 and and the worst I've felt is a bit trembly and hungry. But I don't know if that is the norm, I just realized that I need a healthy snack if I'm not going to eat on time. I don't have diabetes, but I am glucose intolerant (one step before type II diabetes). Her seizure though could be caused by a couple of Lupus issues. Some Lupans have a condition known as sticky blood (an anti-coagulant issue or anti-phospholipid issue) which can cause strokes or seizures. There is also brain involvement in some Lupans where our immune system will attack brain tissue and that can cause seizures. There are more factors in Lupus that can cause seizures too, but I'm not real familiar with the brain involvement. There are a couple folks here who will likely see your topic and give you some good info. I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Blessings!

Hi I saw your post and wanted to tell you I have lupus and I just got diagnosed with very low blood sugar and mini seizures as my neurologist found on mri and bloowork, so I was told also that my lupus attacks the brain too so Im on a mild seizure med for now called Lyrica its used for many other things but is helping my headaches and pains.  Iv only been on it 1 month but a tiny bit better then before, I was told by my neuro doc to eat more fruits for natural sugar and to get glucose tablets at the drugstore. But believe me low bloodsugar and seizures can cause alot of problems.  Good luck to your friend, she may want to see a neurologist as I did for those symptoms that was the only doc I never went to in years and she found them on the 1st visit.  She is just handling the brain stuffs still have to see my other docs for lupus/thyroid Jonny (female)

Yes, those can all be associated together with lupus. I have low blood sugar, but it's not recordable on a monitor.  I'm just SUPER sensitive to any fluctuation in my blood glucose levels.  I also have simple partials seizures.  They were caused by a stroke, BUT, low blood sugar can be a trigger to seizures as well.
