CAN THIS BE LUPUS?

Hi Alan . . . welcome to the Lupus Forum, Alan, I'm sorry your pain is bad and gaining momentum. It compounds our pain when we can't find the reason for it and I can hear your frustration in trying to find the cause. Lupus can certainly cause some really strange undoings in our body . . . but most of what you describe can really be attributed to the the spine problems. Compressed nerves can cause wicked pain that seems unrelated to the back. That type of pain is also difficult to treat. (I have some pinched nerve issues myself). But the groin pain sounds like it could be unrelated to the back (like hip joint issues or prostate). I'm certainly NOT a health care professional . . . just a fellow chronic pain sufferer . . . What makes me want to think Lupus is not a big concern is that none of your issues are bi-lateral (both sides). Frequently (but not always) lupus will cause pain on both sides (both hands or both knees etc.) Which of your issues make you think you might have Lupus?? If you look at my signature, there is a link "Lupus Criterea 4 of 11". If you click that link, you will see 11 symptoms or criterea that help diagnose Lupus. A doctor looks for you to have 4 of the 11 for a positive dx. I hope some of the others will see your post and maybe be able to help. There are also a couple of members here who are men, so I'm hoping they may see your post and comment as well. I am sorry to hear about the pain that you are going through. I think AlwaysRosie has provided you a good info already. I would suggest you to call your doc/specialist to discuss about this and see if there is any further testing can be done and see if there are any med. to alleviate your pain.

Just another welcome to our forum. Did you get a chance to look at the criteria for lupus? Are you having any of those symptoms? I'm sorry you're in so much pain. It's hard when we're in pain day in and day out. I hope you get some answers really soon. Please let us know how things turn out.

Hi Alan, sorry I am late welcoming you to the group. It's really hard to get a DX for auto immune diseases but the blood test is a step in the right direction. However some people will have lupus with a possitive ANA and some people will have Lupus and never have a possitive ANA. So keep pushing and try not to get to frustrated. In the mean time I hope they give you somthing to help you with the symptoms even if they don't have an answer for you for awhile.
