Has anyone experience scalp sores related to Lupus?  I have been under a lot of stress lately & have noticed scalp sores (tiny pimple like sores that are really itchy).  My hair loss has been getting worse at the same time.  Jenny

Hi Jenny,
I don't know if the scalp sores I have are related to lupus or not but I currently have three sores on my head and I am in a flare. I've had them for over a month and they just won't go away. I have a lot of hair on my head and so far I've been lucky enough to not have any hair loss. I guess I'm not much help am I?

Hi all,

As you may know its my daughter who has lupus, but I have many immune diseases. I get scalp sores all the time. I have tried changing shampoos and sometimes it helps sometimes not. The cheaper the shampoo the more reaction.

Jenny, I have gotten the sores too when my hair has been falling out. Mine are itchy too, but I keep forgetting to mention this to my rheumy because there always seems to be so many other things to talk about . I try to use gentle products on my hair, but I'm not sure if it helps or not.

Jenny I got them too manly when I go out into the sun for more than a couple mins without a hat on.

Yeah, they're very common in lupus. Just take it easy when you wash your hair. NO scrubbing!  Sometimes a good cortisone cream will work, but get a prescription from your doctor first.
