Close to, 2 weeks ago when I was in the hospital for a bad lupus and arthritis flare.. they upped my plaqunil and prednisone and put me on cell-cept. Large doses.. and every since then I've been horribly sick at my stomach. I've been throwing up bile all the time, having horrid heart burn.. and no matter what I do it won't stop. I went to the ER last night, in the town I live in.. which I generally try not to do, but I knew I was getting dehydrated and they said they didn't know why I was so sick at my stomach.. has anyone else ever had anything like this?
They put me on a ridiculous amount of prednisone they started me on 70 mgs and had me taper down to 10 which is usually what I'm on.

did anyone even consider the cell-cept? It is a form of chemo. Call you rheumy RIGHT AWAY! You may need antinausea meds or to have one of your meds lowered on dose. Pred can be hard on the stomach, but I have never been that ill from it.

I also agree with Redrose, it could be the Cell Cept that you're taking. I've been on as high as 100mg of prednisone and never been that sick, stomach wise, at least. I'm thinking it's probably the CellCept, give your Rheumy a call. Wishing you the best.

I take high dosage of Cell Cept and sometimes experience extreme nausea. I would defintely contact my rheumy. Your rheumy can prescibe something for the nausea. I see you are taking pheneragan already, maybe prevacid will work better for you. Also there are different forms of phenergan that may work better for you . There is a type that you can rub on your skin that is absorbed through your skin that has worked for me in the past. Sometimes when I have a flare I often have fluid on my lungs and sometimes that makes me nauseated.

zofran is another idea for an anti-nausea med, it works really well with chemo meds.

I agree with everyone else, Cellcept can certainly cause the nausea, I am on a pretty high dosage and end up throwing up sometimes too. When I couldn't take it at one point, I was one a STRONG stomach liner ... I'll try and find the name of it if you would like. I just remember it was a one month dose and it was REALLY effective.

Thank you very much, for the advice, I saw my rhuemy and he did say that it was the cell-cept, but he told me to continue on it.. he thinks I might have an ulcer as well, so I'm getting tests done for that. He gave me nexium (Which is so expensive, and I don't have insurance) but to help until I can get it filled to take previcid over the counter for the acid reflux, and he gave me the phenagran to rub into my skin as well.. which, has really helped a lot. If everyone could send positive thoughts or prayers that would awesome.. I really don't want to have an ulcer, I already have a long list of problems.. and I'm sure most of you know how adding something else to that list is very discouraging. He also thinks that I might have bronchitis as well... and I'm going back to my regular doctor for that... and I'm sure the ones of you that have been on cell-cept know that getting any type of illness while you're on that could be really bad.

I'm glad you saw your rheumy before this got any worse. It's a shame you're having this reaction to CellCept. When I was taking 2,000 mg a day it made me feel absolutely terrific! But it caused my creatinine and bun levels to rise so I had to lower it to 500 mg a day. It's obviously a very strong medicine but when we can tolerate it it really helps. I hope the other meds you're taking help you tolerate it a little better. And good luck with that ulcer. Some days I wonder what else can go wrong! I know you feel that way. I'll keep you on my mind and in my prayers.

i am on cellcept also, and in the beginning i had the same problem, but i never actually threw up. some of the side effects of cellcept is nausea and heartburn. with the cellcept if you take it with food it will usually help the nausea and my doc put me pepcid for the heartburn and it works wonders. but remember dont take an antiacid 2 hrs before or after taking the cellcept.

Yeah, I take the antacid 2 hours before I take my cellcept, I also take the phenagran in advance as well.. I'm on 1000 mg of cellcept, and I've had to go up on my prednisone as well because it's about to snow, and my arthritis is kicking back in. Fun fun! But, yeah he told me that heart burn and nausea was a side effect of the cellcept but because I had a bit of blood in it, he thinks maybe it's an ulcer. Fun times. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate them.

You absolutely do not need another another problem added to your "resume". I'm hoping that the blood was caused by the terrible shape your esophagus must be in after the awful heart burn you've had. Take care and add my positive thoughts to all the others.

Oh Becca, I'm so sorry yu are going thru this. I don't take cellcept so I have no experience to draw from there. Te nausea is right up my alley though. It takes so long to get over the heartburn and nausea especially is you have a problem with your esophgus. Have you ever been tested for a hiatal hernia? I have one and noticed that alot of people on this board have them. With the high doses of meds you have been on it could cause a hiatal hernia to cause some serious problems. You may want to the a upper GI done for that.
