Bloody Urine and Kidney related Lupus flares?

   Lupus or not Lupus seems to be the question. I woke up at midnight last night with blood in my urine but didnt think much about it as I had no pain . I figured it to be my cycle. I woke up at 3 am with a need to urinate and yet again more bloody urine with much pain this time. For the rest of the morning I would be stuck in the bathroom praying the pain away. I got into the  GP and they did the quick test, I was positive for blood and leukocytes and 3+ glucose . The primary feels after 4 of these since the summer its probably Lupus related. I have never been prone to bladder infections a day in my life until Lupus dx. I was sent off to the urologist and waiting for a return call from my rhuemy tonight. I dont know what to think? I am a bit nervous as I really dont want my kidneys biopsied and I HATE  predisone. I weaned myself off in October and I do not want to go back on them again. I just lost 20 lbs and would like to keep it off. Can you guys tell me the symptoms of real kidney problems? I would like to believe this is just a bladder infection. I also have Crohn's Disease so the drug of choice was cipro and I dont think it works as well as macrobid as my pain level is going back up. I took a Macrobid at 3 this morning since I had one laying around. Any advice from those of you with kidney related lupus disease?

Did the docs think of doing an IVP to check for kidney stones? Pain and blood in the urine, for me, signals more kidney stones. Some of the members have kidney involvement and can speak to the specific signs of kidney related lupus. I do know that kidney failure is painless and I never know when I might test positive for protien in my urine. Good luck and my prayers are with you!

They dont think its Kidney stones and I have had 4 urine tests that showed protein in my urine since summer. I have also ben having too many kidney infections. I have no idea whats going on. urologist is supposed to figure it out. I am a bit nervous as I have never had these problems prior to this summer

I just saw my urologist yesterday about my high Anti dsDNA. He said that if I start throwing protein or show blood in my urine to come back in and they will run tests to rule out kidney stones before he would even think of sending me on to have a kidney biopsy. The only way they can be sure it isn't kidney stones is to do a CT. I wouldn't even consider a biopsy until they had exhausted non-invasive tests.

I'm with the others, it sounds a bit like kidney stones to me.. I have renal stenosis in both kidneys and chronic kidney stones. Like Gidget said, they really need to do a CT to totally rule out kidney stones. If you don't know much about kidney stones, they actually have the ability to get stuck in the ureter and eventually cause renal failure. If you can actually go to the bathroom, though that's a good sign.. if it gets to point where you can't at some point, don't wait, go to the ER... going up to three days without going to the bathroom can cause toxicity and death. I hope you find out what's wrong! You're in my prayers.

hi, for me whenever i had protein in my urine it was usually a sign of a flare, but that was easy each to check with bloodwork. my docs would do a CMP and check my creatinine and if it was high we would go from there. But i know that whenever i had protein in my urine it never hurt to go to the bathroom. i really never felt anything i only knew cuz my urine was a different color ( i know i'm a little strange but everytime i go to the bathroom i check the color of my urine just in case). The only time i had pain when urinating was when i had a bladder infection but my urine was clear and i have never had a kidney infection. did your doc do any bloodwork? I hope you get some answers really soon.
